I've learned that Karolina's first violin teacher was Elisa Boynton. This was when Karolina lived in Portland, Oregon. She was probably 6 yrs old when she first started taking lessons, and 8 yrs old when she moved away to live in the Los Angeles area. See my video "Karolina Protsenko (15 yrs) - Visiting First Violin Teacher After 7 Years (Nov 1, 2023)".
In that video, Karolina tells the Home Viewer that Elisa Boynton was such a great teacher, her parents would drive her 45 minutes from home in Portland, all the way to Elisa's house in neighbouring Orgeon City, and back for her lessons, every week.
Then, when Karolina moved to the Los Angeles arera, she found a teacher Mr Armado Anto who she could continue with her Suzuki Method lessons.
The video starts with a photo of an 8 year old Karolina Protsenko grinning with pride alongside with her proud music teacher Armando Anto, inside of a performance auditorium. In Karolina's hands is a small trophy signifying that she's successfully passed her recital, (Suzuki Book 1).
The first clip at 8 sec shows a very small and chubby 8 yr going on 9 yr old Karolina dressed in a white dress playing a beginner's version of the song 'Humoresque' in 2017.
It's apparent that this is one of Karolina's first performances, yet she's smiling with confidence. Notice how Karolina has already learned the imporance of having a good vibrato with her left hand and crisp bow work with her right hand.
I've recently found that peformance was 'Humoresque' by Antonin Dvorak, originally written in 1894. Humoresque is covered in Suzuki Book 3.
The next clip at 25 sec has Mr. Anto calling Karolina back to the stage to accept her two (Suzuki Method) graduation trophies. She is hugged, then awarded her (Book 2 & 3) trophies. Karolina smiles, then takes a deep bow.
At 38 sec, the next clip has Karolina wearing a black dress, playing a more complex song, 'Vivaldi's Concerto in A minor' in 2018. It is covered in Suzuki Book 4. She's displaying good arm technique with confidence, but her body is stiff like a beginner. At that time she'd be 9 going on 10 years old.
At 55 sec, a taller, slimmer Karolina is wearing another black dress, playing the song "La Folia" by Corelli (2018) with confidence, and an expressive face that reflects on the feelings of the various passaage. A sure sign of her understanding what the song means. Her body motion is animated like how a skilled violinist would play. Tremendous musical growth. 'La Folia' is covered in Suzuki Book 6.
At 1:22 sec, Mr. Anto tells the audience that Karolina came into his life a year & a half ago, and quickly completed (Suzuki) Books 1, 2, & 3, and last semester, Books 4 and Books 5. He then calls her to the stage to accept her trophies for (completing) Books 4 & 5. Once again, Karolina gets hugged, and then awarded her 2 trophies. She smiles, then takes a deep bow.
At 1:28 sec, Mr. Anto tells the audience that a year & a half ago Karolina came into his life. They graduated though (Suzuki) Books 1, 2, and 3. Then last semester, they completed (Suzuki) Book 4 and Book 5.
Mr. Anto announce "Karolina, you're an angel. Come here for your Graduation of Books 4 & 5." Karolina smiles as she gets hugged, and then awarded her 2 trophies. She then gives a deep bow.
At 1:53 sec, a taller, slimmer Karolina is wearing a white dress as she plays the more complex song, "Rumanian Dance" by Bartok (2019). At this time, Karolina would be age 10 going on 11 years old.
Her body motion is more animated and shows that she understands the emotion that the song is conveying. Her bowing and fingering is much more advanced.
At 2:35, Mr. Anto tells the audience that Karolina is now at the Professional level. She is age 10. He reads from the trophy, "Karolina, For graduating (Suzuki) Book 6." Karolina gets hugged, then awarded her trophy. She smiles and takes a deep bow. She goes and hugs Mr. Anto a final time.
I assume that this is Karolina's last time with Mr. Anto since she has completed her Suzuki Lessons with him.
I've discovered that when not working as a Suzuki Method Teacher, Armando Anto also works as a Standup Comedian in clubs in the Los Angeles area.
Karolina now studies under a new teacher, Mr. Sam Fischer. Mr. Fischer is aware that Karolina busks (performs for tips) in Santa Monica. He is teaching Karolina advanced techniques to advance her playing skill levels.
