টেকসই বন ও সমৃদ্ধ বাংলাদেশ । Sustainable Forest and Enriched Bangladesh | 2021 | Evergreen Forest
This is the country of 1,300 flowing rivers.
Built on silt, it is our independent motherland.
Dear viewers, now we’ll see a documentary on the diverse activities of Prokriti O Jibon Foundation in conservation of the environment and forests of Bangladesh.
Fresh forest signifies a healthy environment, which is vital to a beautiful life.
Dear guests, now we’ll hear from our Special Guest, Dr. A.K.M. Rafique Ahammed, DG, Department of Environment.
Thank you.
Firstly, with utmost respect I remember the architect of our liberation, greatest Bengali of all time, Father of The Nation, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, and millions of martyrs of our Liberation war.
I want to thank Prokriti O Jibon Foundation.
I hope, Mr. Babu will become an iconic symbol to live in the hearts of the Bengali people.
I pray for him.
Even at this age he is still young.
Even though, he is quite humble about himself, I think he is evergreen.
We’ve seen he has travelled throughout the forests and wilderness, and have always motivated us.
We have two types of experience: local or indigenous knowledge, and the scientific knowledge.
In Bangladesh, the discipline of scientific knowledge on nature and environment was initiated quite late.
But, to speak of the overall environment, it is quite new.
It started with the hands of the Father of The Nation, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, with Water Pollution control Ordinance, 1973.
Later with the UN Conventions, most of our Policies, and Acts were enacted.
For sustainable forest, first notable issue is forest health.
How I ensure a healthy forest, would indicate the forest sustainability.
In the era of industrialization, we are gradually moving away from natural resources.
Which has led to pollution, soil degradation, and deforestation.
For sustainable forests, we should prevent human interference by initiating a large project right now.
Because, human dependence on forests is natural, present, and would always exist.
We have seen that, when 10% or 20% of the population breaks the law, and are punished, the others become conscious.
At present, we see a different scenario, where 90% population opt to break law.
So, it is not feasible for one organization to regulate the 90% population.
As such, mass awareness is a great regulator.
For which the Prokriti O Jibon Foundation has been working………
Simultaneously, we want to conserve the lushness of Bangladesh, and protect our biodiversity.
We dream of a happy, prosperous, and sustainable Bangladesh.
We’ll achieve our SDG goals for Agenda 2030, and raise our country to greater heights.
With this, thanking all, I’ll conclude my speech.
Thank you, for your valuable speech.
Dear viewers, we are almost at the end of our program.
For closing remarks, we will call on the Chair of today’s program, Mr. Md. Amir Hosain Chowdhury, Chief Conservator of Forests, Bangladesh Forest Department.
First, I want to remember the greatest Bengali of all time, without whom we couldn’t become the citizens of today’s independent Bangladesh, Father of The Nation, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
In 1971 the newly born Bangladesh was a war-torn nation, known to people as a bottomless basket.
Today, we’ve achieved self-sufficiency in food production.
However, to achieve it, forests and wildlife have played vital role.
Which, many of us forget or neglect to remember.
We fail to remind ourselves that, compared to other countries, in this densely populated country with 1,200 people/km2, Forest Management has been a difficult and challenging task.
And, we have been carrying out this task of Forest Management scientifically in Bangladesh.
Today’s title speaks of Sustainable Forest.
Sustainable Forest was termed one way in 1913.
But at present, Sustainable Forest means involving the common people or the forest dependent community integrally.
Protecting their forest dependent livelihood, we have to ensure sustainable forest management.
We, the Forest Department, have started forest management involving the common people 40 years ago.
In last 20 years we’ve conducted co-management.
In 20 years, we’ve succeeded in declaring 49 Protected Areas.
28 of these Protected Areas have been brought under co-management.
Our largest project is “Sustainable Forests and Livelihood” or SUFAL Project.
We have started the activities of Collaborative Forest Management for last 2 years.
The most low-cost solution in the world to combat climate change is- sustainable forests.
To ensure security of our lives, livelihoods, and existence, sustainable forest is irreplaceable.
Thanking all, I am concluding the program.
