Hi, our name is Phil and Sofa. August 16 ‘19, we left our hometown, hometown and went on a WORLDWIDE TRAVEL.
China. Country # 5 on our trip around the world.
And we start from the largest autonomous region - Xinjiang, which is in the very west of the country. Namely, from the historical city - Kashgar.
The indigenous population of the region, the Turkic people - Uyghurs. Muslim ethnic minority. By origin, tradition and religion, closer to Central Asia than to China.
In recent years, people have been living in total oppression by the communist government. China, by all means, is trying to assimilate the nation, asserting its power over the locals.
The region has introduced very stringent security measures. Every corner of the house is hung with security cameras. To move from district to district, people need to go through an inspection, scan their face, show ID cards, say where and why they are going. You can’t move freely around the country and even more so leave it.
A simple tourist, the city falls in love and fascinates. Men in skullcaps, tandoor bread, dried fruits, fruits, streets with flower pots, aladdin lamps, as well as a million mopeds, red flags, signs on hieroglyphs. Such a self - a colorful mixture of East and Asia.
The first days, we are accompanied by our friend Shodmon from Tajikistan, with whom, along the wagon, they crossed the Chinese border. It makes a fun company and helps in communicating with locals, with movement and with housing. By the way, with the last point, there is tension in the region. Small selection, expensive and not everywhere let in if you are not Chinese. The hotel where we stayed is not displayed, not on one of the sites we know for housing. Therefore, we will leave the coordinates 39.476694, 75.982294. Suddenly, come in handy.
After a week of exploring Kashgar, we set off for the next city on the route - the metropolis of Chengdu. Common sense tells us, for the first time in our hitchhiking trip,
take the train. Since the region is crammed with security checkpoints and our movement can cause problems not only with us, but also with fellow travelers.
Great opportunity to ride a Chinese train,
see from the inside, the differences from "ours" and get to know better the local mentality.
3600 km in 2 days? Easy!
