Route 5 in my efforts to find Table Mountain's toughest ascent!
Kasteels Gulley is a speedy and direct route up the Buttress around which the popular Kasteelspoort trail circles, featuring a couple of top quality scrambling sections on some fantastically strong and grippy rock. The route tops out through a memorable fissure, beneath the "Camel Rider Prong" rock formation seen in the thumbnail. The route is easily accessed from Kasteelspoort, and tops out very close to that route, which we took as our descent.
Enjoyment Rating: 4/5
Difficulty Rating: 7.5/10
Challenges: a very quick and direct route, but made difficult by the two c-grade scrambles. The first in particular was a fun challenge (and should not be underestimated), whereas the 2nd we found more straightforward. Apart from that, route finding is a little tricky in the lower sections, but for the most part, a standard, short c-grade scramble
