Kate Goes Trucking!
This week's video is the second part of Winter Fun! Grain Hauling in Montana • Winter Fun! Grain Haul...
In last week's video, you saw the process of filling a semi-truck for it's trip to the elevator where we and other farmers sell wheat. In today's video, you will get to hear more information about semi-trucks from Steve Wahl with Steve Wahl Trucking. Steve explains all of the very technical controls in the truck. We also talk about the proper way of driving a semi-truck in order to ensure optimal safety. You will have the opportunity to see what it is like taking your grain to the elevator from a truck driver's perspective. I even include some of the awesome drone footage my Dad took. I explain that a hydraulic probe is used to take a sample of the grain that is in the truck. The probe will take the sample into the facility where it is tested to determine what grade it is. For example, they test grain for its protein. You can see the full perspective on how the hydraulic probe works from a drone view. I show you the wheat dumping in the pit which is quite amazing. We stopped hauling early because of the weather so my Dad and I stopped at Lily Bean's Coffee Shop in Dutton Montana to get a hot chocolate. I take you inside the coffee shop. Lily and I explain how important it is to support local businesses. After my Dad and I had our hot chocolates we saw Tom the head of the Mountain View Cooperative in Dutton. I had such a great time making this video. I hope you enjoy! Please don't forget to like and hit the subscribe button for my channel.

My Story…
Hello. My name is Kate Stephens, and I am a 16-year-old 4th generation farmer. My family has been farming wheat in north-central Montana since my great grandfather immigrated from Denmark in 1912 and homesteaded our land. My family has been teaching me about farming since I was two years old. I run one of the combines on the farm at harvest. I believe that it is important for everyone to know where their food comes from and the families who produce it. I love our farm, and I hope that my Farm to Fashion and Farm to Table products can help educate people about where their food comes from in a fun way. That is how Kate's Ag became a reality. I hope you love my products as much as I do because this is an extension of our farm and the grains we have been growing to feed other families for over one hundred years.
