This is one of the best covers of this song on KZitem. I have just spent the last 30 minutes listening to various versions of this song. Aside from Peter, Paul & Mary (A personal favorite) this is the best one on KZitem. Amazing Job.

Katie, I have listened to many renditions of this song since 1968. As a college freshman my girlfriends suite mate played and sang this song very similar to your version. Great song, great performance, thanks!

Hi, I love this song! I love this kind of music and would like to know what kind of "genre" is it? And where about it's from? I love marideth cisco's version, from winters bone movie. Is this type folk music from western Virginia or around there? I'm from Finland so I don't know a lot about American folk music
@katiedill3768
Жыл бұрын
Yep it’s folk. A lot of American folk music came over from Europe and then came down through generations of oral tradition and the songs added verses and changed a bit. A lot of it got kind of saved up in the Appalachian mountains and then eventually written down and preserved so that’s why you might hear of it coming from Virginia.

Huh. Strikingly similar to Barbara Dane's "Don't Sing Love Songs," which is also known as "Silver Dagger." A lot of those traditional song are intermingled, it seems. Anyways, amazing job.
