@amaltaher2717

aevious honestly. They compare women who make completely different types of music like Ariana and Taylor and Billie and then they say nothing about all the guys who literally all make the exact same music. I don’t know why they compare the women so much as if there isn’t space for both of them in the industry. Ariana is an r&b type of pop, Taylor is a more folk and simple type of pop and Billie is more of a soft singer. I’m sick of people saying Ariana is a better ARTIST than Taylor and Billie because she can hit bigger notes and has a bigger range. Ariana is my favorite singer because I like her sound and r&b more but Taylor and Billie are amazing songwriters. They only use two people to write a song and while I love Ariana, her songs don’t connect to me as much as Billie and Taylor’s because of the songwriting. Artistry isn’t about just singing. Its about making people feel something and healing. It’s about writing and Taylor can play multiple instruments so she can write songs by herself while Ariana can’t. Does anyone only listen to one female artist? No, you listen to everyone you like so I don’t know why fans are so focused on saying one is better than the other. They are both very talented in different ways and amazing artists. Ariana thrives on vocals and Billie and Taylor thrive on writing songs and playing instruments and they are all good performers. It’s so dumb to me. Don’t even get me started on the major ageism for women in the music industry. It doesn’t happen to men as much but after arianas birthday, people were saying she only has 3 more years in her career because she would turn 30 by then.

So um I'm a BIG Katycat and die hard one at that. But no... like Honest said in the video too the songs sounds like Prism or Witness rejects. If she had gone back fully to her sound like dropped another Roar or California Gurls people would eat it up no matter what's the most popular genre rn. Instead these songs were kinda weak and only okay and not groundbreaking so that's why people are saying it sounds the same. And people expect the level of quality the Queen of Pop Katy Perry would produce and not what we got. Cuz as sucky as it is for us to face it, these songs in Katy's peak days would have been just fillers on her album. So I think we Katycats aren't really taking this criticism from non Katycats properly and only focusing on having bias praises for Katy.

I also don’t get how women continuously reinvent themselves and have to have new eras all the time to be successful and then are compared to each other even though they have completely different sounds while there are men who literally sound the same on every single album and get no hate for it. On arianas birthday, I saw people saying she only has a couple more years before she turns 30 and isn’t successful anymore and it was so stupid. That’s why I love Madonna. It's like she can't win either way. She's finally happy and that's all that matters. Her album is amazing, I can't even about you not mentioning Cry About It Later - the best track from Smile. The thing is, Katy was crucified with "Witness" for doing something different. She wasn't attempting to be anyone's teenage dream anymore, and shifted into a place of wanting to tell the stories she wanted to, and deliver messages she felt were important; feminism, sexual liberation, ignorance in politics, not having your dreams stifled, etc. Katy's "downfall" was because of her genre experimentation and accusations of being fake "woke", a video you definitely made. A video where you literally said, "as soon as her hair grows back, so will her career." I mean the audacity you have to call "Witness" 'corny' and 'unimpressive', yet now essentially shifting that viewpoint onto "Smile". You cannot have it both ways. Opinions naturally shift over time, and I totally respect that, and understand it. But it's mind boggling to have an issue with Katy not experimenting with "Smile", yet having an issue when she did with "Witness". And that seems to be everyone's issue. People hate when she tried something different, then hated when she went back to what people liked. This very much is a record dedicated to her fans, and the people who helped her literally make the choice to live, when people like you put out a viral video slamming her to no end. First Katy is "inauthentic" with her not being "woke" with "Witness", but NOW "Smile" isn't "authentic". I didn't realize being politically active your entire career was "fake", and didn't know putting out a collection of songs you wrote when you wanted to kill yourself was "fake" either. Katy is done being your pop queen, and she's done trying to please you. She's here for the ride and to celebrate her music. It's not about charts, it's not about sales, it's not about numbers. She isn't trying to please anyone. I understand this video is basically rooted in opinion, and you're entitled to that. But I don't think you listened to the same record everyone else did. Anyways, "Cry About It Later", "Not The End of the World" and "Teary Eyes" slap.

Smile is an incredible album and a masterpiece. She serves some of her best vocals, the production is amazing and the lyrics are real, empowering and deep. She is pregnant during a word wide pandemic and still doing live performances and everything to please her fans. This record was not meant to chart or be a huge success at all, it was not even properly promoted in any way... Smile is a very personal album that takes the listener on a trip back to her smile as the lyrics on every song progressively lead to happiness. Calling it basic or full of rejected songs is disrespectful and shows how you didn't listen to the lyrics, nor the story they tell at all. Katy is doing amazing... She is a mother and finally happy with her personal life. She has done it all, she is a legend and charts don't matter to her anymore.

people need to remember katys second album teenage dream, lana's born to die, marina's electra heart, and im sure many others, were all industry created personas intentionally designed to make the artist mainstream. after that, artists go down their own path, knowing it might not be mainstream, but being true to themselves. katy's being authentic, and made an album to literally try to make people 'smile'. EDIT: I also feel like katy can't win, back in teenage dream days she was considered a 'ditzy popstar', she tries to educated herself in witness days and she gets ridiculed for not knowing things, now shes trying to be authentic and make people happy and 'its too boring'. i know 'thats showbiz' but sheesh.

Respect your opinion. I have to be honest that this album was not a bop to me when I finished it the first time, but it is definitely a grower. The more you listen and research the meaning behind the lyrics, the more you will love it. It’s an album about her self-love and her fight against depression. And just like the title name of the album, it is about the smile and the joy that she once lost but regain right now. Yes this might not reach the standard of being super catchy or dance party songs like others in the mainstream pop music field, but it is definitely not this dull as you say. In my opinion, some songs are even quite relatable for ppl like me who have been through some troubles with mental health or self-love, such as Not the End of the World, Resilient and Teary eyes. I hope this is not a rush video made after one time listening by you. Maybe after a multiple times of revisit you will find some songs are quite good like Only love, Harleys in Hawaii, What makes a woman :)

Katy is in the middle of the Erotica cycle, when a female popstar is unfairly cancelled and ridiculized for the media and the general public when she realise an experimental and good album: Erotica, Artpop, Bionic, I haven´t heard Glitter but it also fits, and Witness. Then she realise a less ambitious and more head down project: Bed Time Stories, Joane, Lotus, Charmbracelet and Smile. AND THEN she makes her comeback: Ray of light, Chromatica, Liberation, The emancipation of Mimi and ???. History repeats her self, Katy is a main pop girl, she is gonna recover.

Okay, something to note about this album she said in a track on the record (deluxe version) the body of work was a combination of songs they already had and new ones she had written. With that in mind, I think this was just a therapy or freeform project for her. The feelings I had about a couple of the songs on the album were that some of them sounded dated or reminiscent of another artist's work. There are definitely solid cuts on Smile but as she said this was an album that wasn't planned but came to be a collection from having most of the material already in the vault.

Champagne problems, Teary eyes, Cry About it Later, Tucked, Only Love, Resilient & Not the end of the world (basically all her "not single" songs) are musically cohesive and not so bad! I am actually shooketh. I'm so happy for Katy & I don't think her album is boring. THANK YOU.
