I reccomend you bying one cause if you're not really familiar with kaval you will not know when did you make your mouth part right so you might instead make it wrong, i tried pvc but it didn't work well, aluminum tube works pretty well. You can also pracitce on a bottle of water just blowing on it like a kaval and generating sound so that you start to understand the kaval a litle bit more. Because of that it took me about an hour to learn how to make sound and play kaval when I made mine. Also as for dimensions you can find them on google

Thank you for this tutorial. ❤️ I have played some flutes like the Xiao or Bansuri, but never a Kaval. A few days ago I ordered one and I can't wait to try it out! :) You have great content, thanks for sharing your music. Lots of love, Meike 🙋

Yea deffo reversed. I’m left hand whistle player so left hand would cover bottom holes with it pointing to left. Righ handed ya right hand would cover bottom holes with it facing ta the right. Tbf is explained well it’s just the mirroring of the vid

Thanks for the Video. I managed to get my firts tone, but as soon i cover any holes, nothing happens anymore. I hope you can help me.

It is a matter of practice with respect for the instrument. You just start with producing a tone and when you are comfortable with that you start playing different tones. You also have learn to close the holes with the middle section of your finger except for the pinpy..

I have an original Bulgarian kaval hand crafted by my great uncle, but it only has 6 finger holes (plus the one thumb hole) as opposed to the standard 7, and so I'm not able to find a finger chart for it. Just using the straight forward one-finger-after-the-other notes, I've found that it's naturally an F# tuning. It's also quite a bit shorter than other traditional Kavals I've seen online. Are you familiar with anything like this?

Wonderful that you are picking up playing kaval. Personally I am not familiar with 7 holes kavals. I do build hybrid 7 holes ney flutes chromaticly tuned

Because it'll sound like recorder flute which is great for classical music and some irish and other european trad. music by the way. Kaval and other similar flutes are from different part of the world, different nature, different climate and nations, different culture - very many things are different. I think they just like these sounds more, they like an ability to change it so it could sound different and more interesting, which you can't do with recorder...

@@RAFAELLO077 Don't give up. If you persist with respect and love for the instrument it will open up to you. It took me also much longer practice compared to shakuhachi. But it is worthwhile. You will have a sweet companion for the rest of your life. It will also open the door to playing Turkish and Arabiasn ney.

@@RAFAELLO077 youtube doesn't work properly... Wow... You posted a comment a year ago and it made me know just now... 🤣🤣🤣 Ok... How it's going now? Are you playing it? For me it was a bit hard to learn, but i kept practising and watching videos of other people playing kaval and after about a year i can play something, but quality of sound is not constant so... Need to practise more.
