I have 90 650sx and my question is I have three lines coming out of fire wall, two on carb side and one in exhaust side. when I got this ski the top line on the carb side was blocked off. with a whole new motor and whole West coast exhaust I'm still confused as to what does what and goes where?? and yes I've researched and read and looked at pictures but with no 100% certainty that it's correct. thanks.

Hey Brad I have a Kawasaki 650sx I rebuilt last year. Runs great but by end of the season it would not go just bogged down. No weeds. Wondering if it is a gasket in the cooling system letting water into cylinder. Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks!
@brads3111
6 жыл бұрын
Donald Reisert hey don, as long as water is coming out of the pisser then yo u know the cooling js correct. If its bogging down amd still runs your looking at a air to fuel ratio issue. Fresh gas? Did you replace the crank seals with a true rebuild, that is very important. True rebuild is piston and rings replacement. Do you still have good compression?

I had my engine bogging and wouldnt stay running when i was running hose water through the system. It turns out my engines cylinder head gasket was blown so i rebuild the whole top end and new crank seals. About to throw it in so hopefully it works

So I have dual cooling lines from my pump. Am I supposed to tap my second line into my exhaust manifold like the original line? And will my lines be different than yours because I have dual cooling? If so please explain.
@brads3111
4 жыл бұрын
There should only be a single cooling line from the pump if there's a secound line running from the pump and through the ski hull than that ski was modified. Very interesting. If you can plug both lines into the exhaust that would be great. But you also in uncharted territory. You might even half to Y those lines together prior to the exhaust if theres only one water inlet.. Just a thought.

Hey Brad I just found your videos on Jet Skis and love 'em! I know it's been years since you've posted Jet Ski videos and hpefully you still monitor your youtube channel. We (my family) have 5 Jet Skis; 2 of which are similar to yours. A 1990 550SX and a 1991 650SX. My questions for you is are simple ones. Which of the 2 ski's is faster? ... and if it's the 550 is it because of more mods? and Which is the most fun to ride? .... and why? Thanks man!
@brads3111
3 жыл бұрын
Thats a tough one. I have a 1986 550 not the 550sx. The 550sx actually has a reed motor " more power. Out of the hole the 550sx is faster. In the early days they preferred the 550sx over the 650sx for racing. Top speed the 650sx is faster i believe. But only by 2 mph or something small. The 550sx is less stable and l lighter which is more fun for tricks. The 650sx is just better all day on the lake for stability for high speed. If you watch Craigslist and ebay closely you can find aftermarket parts kind of cheap. The best thing for power is always a rebuilt engine if its time. Go have fun.

@@brads3111 - Thanks for the quick reply. One correction; we have a 1990 550sx which was the 1st year using the 'sx' in the name but it isn't a reed motor, It's still a piston port motor in that year but the hull has rear exit exhaust so they gave it the SX name... Thanks again...

Hey brad i just installed a coffmans aftermarket exhaust pipe on my 650 and i’m not getting any water from the outboard pisser when i’m riding. I get water flow when i flush the system manually when the garden hose water has direct flow into the head, and i also get water flow out the pisser when the garden hose is put in to the rear line out the back of the ski from the pump. But I get no water when i’m riding and the pump itself is submerged in water. is there any way i can send you a few pictures of my setup and you could tell me if i have it ran correctly? Thanks

From the line going the engine to the pump can you blow through it? Its very common that somewhere in the line it becomes obstructed.

Cowboy4737. Hows it going! First thing first just like a boat its rare to get your money out of it. There are motor mount shims under the engine mount. Each corner to each mount has a different amount of shims. Dont! Loose or mismatch the shims or else your life is over. When you finally rebuild your motor replace the crank shafts seals. More than worth it. Hope you enjoy!

Hey buddy I bought a jet jon boat they just put a jet ski motor in a boat, start good, runs good but not too fast when I accelerate to go faster I bogs down I open where the thermostat goes and there was none so, do you think thermostat has something to do with it or maybe carbs I'm no mechanic so if its alot work that it needs done I might sell it to someone that can fix it and get some money back, by the way compression is 125 on each cylinder which has 2
@brads3111

125 is still good. I would look at either clean or slightly adjusting the carb. Usually theres hi, med and low screws for air fuel ratio.. Sometimes theres also two screws for high and low afr's. Start there.

Tuning is super simple. Higher rpms you just turn the high jet needle until it stops bogging down. It's that simple. Also sometimes you need to check the rear main sill. That could have air coming in and making the rear cylinder run lean.

You will need to start diagnosing starting from the jet pump. The jet pump supplies the water pressure. Some time the line from the jet pump becomes clogged. I would start there. Something is clogged somewhere.

@brads3111

No aftermarket carb. These are very simple motors and the stock carb is more than enough. If you want more power, rebuild the motor, replace the reeds and replace the the cranks seals. Then it will run like a beast.

Hello Brad, I have a 1986 JS550 I just picked up from Craigslist. It was sitting for 2 years but it fires right up and runs perfect at that aspect. Currently there is no water coming out of the pisser hole on the left, this is neither in the water or hooked up to a hose. I called two mechanics and they said to take the head off and clean the water jackets underneath the head. Any ideas of what else it could be. I cleared out all of the hoses to make sure there was no cobwebs or sand or anything and is where I am at now. Any feedback would be great.

Donald Reisert. Also i forgot to mention that if its reving up like it has power but not going. It coupd be cavitation. Theres a air leak around the pump where the pump/propeller has so much power its pulling air feom the engine bay and mixing with the water.. you will have to re silicone the pump housing and all.
