Recently was gifted a 1972 F7 175 and have little to no knowledge of motorcycles let alone carburetors. This was very informative and I appreciate your effort and time spent good sir.

Hi, will certainly try to help, though I have to say I am not a professional, simply a well meaning amateur really. Been a while since I did this video, I think I may still have the Clymer workshop manual. email me at paul.abelmc@gmail.com. Where you based by the way?

@@paulbell9025 Paul, Thanks for the quick reply to my message on KZitem. I tried to email you but for some reason I couldn’t get it to you. I'm near Walsall in the midlands and am restoring a 1974 F7 C, I'm at the point where I need to check all the settings after the rebuild. I've got a clymer manual but I don't find it very useful as it covers numerous models, and very rarely mine. I have a type one single float carb which is barely mentioned in the clymer manual, and am just a bit confused between the idle speed stop screw and the pilot air (idle mixture) screw. I'm guessing that the speed stop screw sets the tickover revs and the mixture screw controls the petrol/ air mix. The clymer manual refers to 1 1/2 turns out for the stop screw but doesn't mention the mixture screw. Any help you can give would be great. Cheers, J

No mention was made of the importance of replacing the needle jet holder o-ring. This must make a tight seal in the float bowl.

Hey Paul, I have a 1972 F7 I’ve been tinkering with, I’m trying to get the carb off completely to rebuild it and I’m having some trouble getting the throttle cable disconnected. Do you have any advice for me?

Hi Phil, been some time since I did this and the bike is long gone. Let me have a think and a look in the shop manual, I am guessing you mean at the carb not the twist grip.

Hi Levi, check to see if the slide is somehow stuck open. If so check the throttle cable into the carb. These carbs can be a bear to work on.

How did the rebuild of the carburetor turnout? Did you work on bikes in the 70's ?
@paulbell9025

Hi, got the bike up and running, not great as the compression turned out to be quite low, but nevertheless running. Worked on my own bikes in the 70's as I never had the money to pay anyone to do it for me. Recently did a pair of 1975 KZ 750 carbs, by far the most bunged up carbs I have ever worked on. Worth watching the video to see what can brought back from the dead.

I've been looking for a good video about an f7 carb for a while. This one really helped out. I did not know the main jet was in the fuel bowl. Right on for that. But my float is plastic and square. What's up with that !?. Any ways thanks for the vid. It really did help.

Hi, guess the floats could be different dependent on the year / model, this is a 71. Same floats as some of the KH models BTW. Let me know the year of your bike and I will check if I have any details. Paul

Hi Hamilton, sorry for the delayed 2nd reply, this link images.cmsnl.com/img/partslists/kawasaki-f7a-1972-usa-carburetor-71-73-f7f7-af7-b_bigkar039546709_44e2.gif should take you to a parts diagram for the carb. I think what may be tricking you (well it did me) is that it looks like there should be a nut and bolt passing through the casting at the rear of the carb, however there is not one ! The boot holds it in place, even more so when the engine side cover is put back on; I also secured the one on mine with a smear of silicone gasket .
