I had a ‘74 lime green g5 100. I rode that thing everywhere. Back then I was a sophomore in high school and rode that bike to school every day. Snow and winters included in Nebraska. Nice video and thanks for sharing!

My first bike was a G5 100 at age 11 it was brand new. Immediately removed blinkers and rear taillight as it was strictly ridden on dirt. I rode that bike hard for 4 years until I bought a new 1975 Yamaha DT250. The G5 was and is an awesome bike. You did an amazing restoration, I know having owned one straight from the dealer. My only disappointment was I wanted to hear the motor which is a unique sound that I can still hear in my memory bank all these years later.

That thing looks amazing, chrome isn't cheap. Have a 74 with 988 original miles on it that i'm going through with bringing it back to life. I once had a 2001 KE brand new in the crate, was my first bike ( yes I'm not an old guy, but I'm not 14 and as dumb with bikes as I was ) and I rode that thing almost everyday for 6 years, eventually sold it and moved up into bigger machines, but that bike never left me walking home and was simple to maintain.

What a thrill to see someone restore a bike like my first one. I think dad bought mine in ‘76 as a basket case. We had the cylinder bored, new piston and rings, and but it back together from pictures in the manual. Thank you for sharing.

Hi, Thanks for the video. Well done! I am currently restoring a 72 G5. Did you powder coat the smaller parts ie the headlight bucket, air box, tool kit etc in a satin finish? They don’t look gloss in the video. Was the frame a gloss finish from the factory? Thanks for your help on this.
@kwrightway

Factory original: frame, swingarm, triple tree and tool box were were high gloss. The headlight bucket was satin.

I learned to ride on a 1972 Kawasaki G5 100 that belonged to a friend. I am biased but it was a fantastic little bike. The rated top speed was 66 mph but this particular instance would push 70 mph. It ran perfectly for many miles until it was dropped while fording a creek with a sandy bottom. That proved to be nearly fatal to the engine. Some time later, it was stolen, never to be seen again. A very sad event.

Thanks for the shout out in the video! As I am a hockey goaltender, I have seen many hockey pucks shot at me! Great review of an awesome project. Did that model come with turn signals? I saw the indicator light beside the neutral light and it also had the turn signal switch on the left handlebar.
@kwrightway
3 жыл бұрын
Though hockey is quite popular in my area, I was never a player to speak of. Regarding the turn signals... signals were not required as OEM equipment in the US until 1973 so this 1972 model didn't come with them. I believe signals were available as a dealer-installed option though and as you noticed, the bike is clearly configured to allow for the dealer install.

Thanks for showing us (your subscribers) this project. The attention to detail is unsurpassed. Were you able to find NOS striping or were they painted on ? The color scheme just screams 70's. Just luv it !!!
@kwrightway
3 жыл бұрын
You're welcome, thank you for the comments! Regarding the striping... they are decals and they are virtually unavailable NOS but are available commercially from modern suppliers. Reproduction Decals has them as well as I believe, other vendors. As far as I know, the originals were decals too but were not clear-coated. The professional painter supplied the decals and clear-coated over the top of them as part of the painting process. I'm not sure where he got them, but I suspect Reproduction Decals.

I have a 1975 Ke 100. I cannot find ANY accurate references on how the wiring from the battery runs. So, it has been sitting for months. Every schematic I find, the wire colors do not match. This bike has the original equipment throughout. However, Kawasaki must have changed all the wiring schematics on the 1975 model. I don’t want to “ wing it “ and burn it up !
@kwrightway

Hmm, to my knowledge, the first model year of the KE100 was 1976. Kawasaki produced the G5 100 from '72 thru '75, then changed model designation to the KE series. What is the MFG date on the steering stem label, this will help pin the model year down? Kawasaki may very well have changed the wiring when migrating to the KE100 series. BTW, original state paper work or titles are often incorrect regarding model years.
