I’ve got a 1977 KE 175 in the green color. It’s my daily rider.

The K In Kt250 Means Kawasaki & The T Is For TRAIL, It Has 2 Spark Plugs One For Cold Weather & The Other For Hot Weather Riding. The Oil Tank Was On The Left Side Under That Cover. It Has A Oil Pump Under The Cover With The Hole In It On The Right Side Of The Engine , So You Put Ordinary Fuel In The Tank & The Oil Gets Pumped Into The Carburetor & Mixes With The Fuel . Obviously They Have Taken The Oil Tank Off The Bike. Maybe The oil Pump Broke, That's Why They Disconnected It . Pretty Sure It Is A 1975 Model. They Obviously Was Putting 2 Stroke Fuel In The Bike After Something Happened To The Oil Pump

I should add they were popular here in New Zealand as farm bikes. Mine was obviously used as one and had a few farmers modifications on it!

I bought a new KT250 back in 1975. I entered quite a few trials and the bike was every bit as capable as my 250 Montesa. They were very rare here in the UK and I haven't seen one in decades! Your example looks very tidy.

Cool story! This one is for sale. You're a little ways away from Montana though. 🤔

I am rebuilding one currently, I won't say restoring. You are right, only made in 75 and 76 but I still can't quite tell what year mine is. You are meant to be able to tell from the number. The fuel tank is steel. I had to repair mine as it was rusted out. That one you have seems to be missing the horn on the right hand side (opposite the key switch) which might be what the two loose wires are for. But yours seems to have a block there instead? The wires into the back of the switch are soldered on. On mine I think it would run without the key on and I thought that meant something was fiddled with in the wiring but maybe not? Maybe the key is just for the lights? I'll know when I put it back together. Yours is missing the rear light and it looks like the front sprocket cover is missing/broken. Mine had a seized clutch when I got it. The chain tensioner block was worn to the bolts. But amazingly the automatic oiler still works. Apparently many are disconnected. Mine started easily and hopefully still does when I reassemble it! Sounds exactly the same as yours there. It's my first bike. Am more a vintage car person.

When are you going to ride one. That would be super cool to see like with this Kawasaki kt 250 trials bike. My neighbor had one when I was a kid that he restored. Man does this bike bring back memories.

J.I.S. screwdriver should be used on those crosshead screws 'cause Philips is not the same dimensions, you may know this.

I agree. I use a phillips that I modified and it works pretty well. I'm too cheap to buy proper JIS.

Make a starter with rollers that drive the back wheel like for race bikes

I've looked at that type of starter, just a bit more involved than I want to deal with at this time. They are out there for sale but a little rich for my blood. Thanks for your input.

I hope you checked the air cleaner as they disintegrate and turn into foam dust. First turn over sucks all the dust into the carb and maybe cylinder. Also with that hole in the side, I would have checked it to see if there is any shrapnel.

I usually check oil and air filter off camera. I should have checked the hole like you said, could have been a problem. Thanks for the comment.
