Water Cooled Kawasaki engines have not changed much over the years, which is good to see. Makes it nice and easy to modify parts from one engine to the next. Thanks for bringing us along. All the best. Peter.

Yes, absolutely, you can easily trace this design back to the gpz 900 of the early 80's, and the design carried forward to the ZZR 1200. Thanks for watching 😎

Thanks 😊. Our previous best was 9.76 in the 1/4, our class has a 9.50 index, so we don't need much more power. We can now increase the nitrous with confidence.

Phil'O's Garage yes, for sure. How much horsepower increase do you think the big bore kit will make?
@PhilOsGarage
4 жыл бұрын
@@franck_97 probably not a huge amount, though I expect an increase in torque. I'd like to see 140 - 145bhp at the rear wheel, which would translate to 215 - 220 bhp with the nitrous at 100%. We only Ned about 165 at the wheel, so the numbers suggest we are likely to be in the zone.

Thanks dude, looking forward to giving it the berries. We were well into the 9's as it was, this should be the final step to be completely competitive.

Nice. I have a forgotten turbo efi zx11 project in my garage. Maybe I should follow your steps. Did you stick to oem rods?
@PhilOsGarage

Hi Diego, no, we are using forged I beam rods from max speedingrods with ARP rod bolts. Get the ZX-11 out, these old girls can hustle!

How did you solved the 3 rod bearing problem?

Hi, there are a few things, we removed the oil cooler, which slightly improves flow, fitted a new pressure relief valve, removed the balance shaft (and plugged it's oil feed) and always run the oil slightly over the full mark. There is no one single cause of the no3 issue and some bikes seem less affected than others. When we stripped the engine it had done 26,000 road miles and two race seasons. No3 was perfect.

Howzit, can you recall what you bored the cylinders out to? As in what clearance did you allow for the piston and the cylinder block? Did you use the standard kawasaki spec clearance or diff because of the forged pistons?
@PhilOsGarage
2 жыл бұрын
Hi, the over bore is 2mm, and we used the clearance and finish specified by the piston manufacturer, wiseco. The ring gaps were increased to suit a 100 bhp nitrous shot. If using aftermarket pistons always use the piston manufacturer recommended clearance, as forged pistons expand more than cast ones. Thanks for watching 😎

can you tell me more about your PAIR block off plate solution?
@PhilOsGarage
4 жыл бұрын
It's nothing too fancy, we just use a basic blanking plate to replace the petal valves, in European models it wasn't as complex as California bikes. We then just remove the valve and block the lines.
@beholderlt

@@PhilOsGarage your blanking plate seemed like a bolt in the pair hole
@PhilOsGarage

@@beholderlt there is a bolt to close the external hole, but there is a blanking plate under the cover where the petal valve is too.

It's not too bad, if the engine is out and you don't want to risk it a bike shop should be able to swap the box in a couple of hours

Hi, is it a 1990 - 1992 model? I am planning on releasing a buyers guide video soon, and will cover the issue there, it's well known. It is possible to fit the comple gearbox from the D model, be sure to get the gearbox sprocket too, as they are different
