I own a 2012 zx10r which I bought because I liked the looks and when I rode it loved the way it felt. If I liked the bmw then I would of bought that, same as with the gsx1000r, r1 or f4 Truth be told all the litre bikes are way better and fast then most road riders can handle. Yes tom sykes kick ass with his zx10r as does Shayne Byrne with his in bsb. But these bike are miles away from the road/stock version. So buy what you want its never going to use all it's power and be flat out on the road anyway. Take it easy and be safe

Calafat circuit: BMW S1000RR&S1000RR HP4 VS Panigale&PanigaleS: Panigale 0.4 SECS faster than S1000RR and Panigale S was 1 sec faster than S1000RR. HP4 was 0.1 sec faster than Panigale S. On September 2012 Ducati fixed the problem with the ride by wire with an up map for all Panigales (including more midrange power). They run incredebly fast now. So you can be sure the Panigale R will be faster than the HP4. At least on Calafat circuit

Whoever thinks that the s1000rr is a bike designed for taller riders is wrong. The BMW has a very compact cockpit whereas the zx10r is much more open and accommodates taller riders. I am 6'3" and I own the zx10r for this reason. BMW riding position is compact and almost identical to the R6

Goes to show they've been comparing a nonrestricted bike (BMW) vs a restricted bike (Kawi) this whole time. Give the ZX10r a reflash to unrestrict it and see what happens. People are so naive. S1000RRs are fast so are other liter bikes putting down the same horsepower. For the price difference you can simply mod up the other bikes to have them on the same horsepower level. If S1000RRs are so bad ass, why is Honda dominating MotoGP?

If you take a look the Gsx-R1000 is also a beast. It did 7:46.70 at Nurburgring Circuit, it's 4seconds faster than the Zx-10R ride by Tim Rothig.

its true in the twisties a great rider can hang with mediocre riders on 1000s, but when the roads oen up and sweepers and straights are involved, no amount of riding skill can make up for 70-80hp difference , 1000s just stomp 600s when going above triple digits like out

2015 Kawasaki ZX10R msrp ABS: $15,299 / MSRP Non-ABS: $14,299. and the 2014 BMW S1000RR Model: S1000RR ABS; price: $ 15,150 ? {Note # give or take from the source used.} So a year older for the BMW, both are great bikes.. Would like to know the rim weights for both, because that makes a difference in a sweep dyno test as used, the lighter the rear wheel the more power it will show ? Steady state dynos are, or can be the best judge of power when done in small increments of RPM, it doesn't give the lightweight tire & rim combo a advantage, does anyone know the rim weights for both ?

i like more the s1000rr, but apart that the zx10r is really fast but they are 2 bikes with diferent settings...the zx10r is more to top speed racings but s1000rr is more technological, better in always when you go to a circuit in the curves in getting out of that curves...etc... zx10r is a good bike but s1000rr and hp4 is the best superbike in sale at this time! :)

the liter bikes are all about the same nowadays. they used to have personality, but now except for the r1 or rsv4 it all depends what you like. i personally miss the olden days when displacements were all over the place along with handling characteristics. so if you like a particular brand, there is no reason for you to buy anything else. and high horsepower has not produced a wsbk championship for either kawasaki or bmw(even though tom sykes is the king of superpole) few wins for either brand

The S1000RR they are testing is the older model. They should be testing the 2012 and up models with the updated frame geometry and electronics. BMW has since updated the the way the traction control behaves compared to the 2010-2011 models along with fuel mapping. Test seems to confirm the hp advantage the BMW has had all along 10hp.

wow i would love to see that i always thought there was something wrong with the panis myself from what they advertising Hp wise and not live up to it but here in the US yes the bmw makes 184 to the wheels the kawis are down but thats because the restriction put on them unfortunately but an ecu swap brings that power up to 184 itself if you could, and dont mind keep me in tuned with the Pani please

Out the box, s1000 has a little bit more power. Ecu flash on the 10r and that change pretty fast lol. S1000 has about 174hp to the rear. Once you flash the ecu on the 10 you looking at 182 to the rear. No special mods just getting rid of that worthless ecu that's holding the 10r back. Most importantly the 10r set the fastest time on the nurburgring high speed track. Japan's honor has been restored for sure lol. HP4 rubbish as hell also. Kawasaki forever!

New 10r is bad ass for sure. The stock ecu on it though is garbage on it though cause it holds back a bunch of power on the bike. Still comes pretty powerful out the box though with over 173hp. Had buddy on a 08 gixxer 1000 that had his ecu flashed. His bike wasn't able to beat this 10r. Bike started to really pull away from the 08 gixxer around 4th gear. We let off once we hit 5th. Good run though^_^ Once you do away with that stock flash though, the 10r will come alive fast! Be careful on it..

Let's not forget that Kaw ZX-10 recall in early 2011. Just saying. Suzuki had a frame recall on the 2005-2006 gixxer 1000. Also a recall on the 2007-2008 gixxer 1000's sub-frame. They were both breaking !! Oh, Kaw ZX-12's were blowing up clutch baskets and Honda can't get thier charging systems right. Not to mention the 1000rr burn oil @ a quart per 1000 miles. That's normal says Honda. Those engines are blowing up left and right. DO YOUR HOMEWORK ! I'M A 37 YEAR RIDER AND MASTER AUTO TECH.

touche hqchev454! i did forget how close tom sykes was to being the reigning world champion. i think the measure of a bike in wsbk is how many riders achieve results. until this year on marco had won on the bmw and tom sykes seems to be the only guy that can ride the zx10r. it would be nice to have ktm, yamaha, and suzuki back in wsbk with full factory support, but it's still the best racing series there is.

the ecu is that of the euro spec is what im saying im sure there are a few extra ponies but the zx10 restricted and if you take tweek the ecu it makes just about the same peak hp but makes more underneath the curve but the bmw is a monster of a bike and cannot be taken lightly ive seen them make what you buddy makes before so there is no denying that

Ram air simulation/ compensation Well the Kawi SOUNDS faster, but its still gonna take a bit of tuning to ever surpass the BMW with similar mods. Those German did their homework and sat on the back burner studying for years to put out the best build. and w That Japanese ECU has a bit of tweaking/flashing to be done there's much to be had, up to about 10hp +/-.

The biggest problem of the zx10r is its engine. It has only power at the top. Midrange power sucks extremely. Therefore this bike is a really good track bike but on the twisties it has problems. There is a nice video of zx10r vs 1198. On that video you can see what I mean. For usa this bike is besides s1k the best litre bike

That's false. Euro bikes i say have better aesthetics and fit and finish, but overall reliability and maintenance still goes to the big four Japanese bikes. I abuse the hell out of my zx6r at the track and it still rides like a dream on the streets.

From what I have seen with the street riders on youtube the BMW is faster, most will admit it--I am not a K hater as I had a 2005 ZX-10 for a few years but to me it appears the BMW has some awesome midrange that K lacks and that's what is needed on the street

I test rode 2012 r1, 2012 r6 & 2012 zx10r. r6 rides better than r1 in all aspects except power, everything else was better on the r6. the zx10r scared me, it rode better then the r6 with more power than the r1 unbelievable performance. my 01 gsxr 1000 beats my mates 2012 r1 from 1st to 3rd, from low 200s onwards his r1 will catch up and eventually he will get past me in high 200s, for its money the r1 isn't that great. thats just what i've seen though I still like r1s :) .

I have owned both of these motorcycles. First I bought the Kawasaki, I had to spend $5000 to get it anywhere near the claimed 200hp. It is riddled with problems and recalls! Then I purchased the BMW S1000RR :) Now I know why this bike kept winning all of the motorcycle shootouts! See the ZX10R claims 200ps...Actual 174.06 Difference of 26ps KAWASUCKI! BMW Claims 193ps.....Actual 184.36 Difference of 9ps

If you want "true" facts the s1000 and zx10r are very similer in there hp ratings"within 4 hp" (on a dyno) but the 10 has a WAY better ram air system which kawasaki is renouned for!! When it comes to the track/hard riding the 10 will be dominate.

The reason the stock BMW makes more hp than the U.S. model of the zx10r is because the U.S. model is extremely limited by noise pollution laws here. A simple $400 ECU reflash will give the zx10r huge power gains and increase the top speed quite a bit. Also the zx10r comes stock with titanium headers. Throw a straight pipe on and it with the ECU reflash and it will blow away the BMW.
