So is the anchor wizard deemed safe to use since you can't unclip from the anchor? If you can I haven't seen a demonstration of that.

Great question! I love those things. I wouldn’t call it “unsafe”. If anything I would simply call it limited. I don’t have one to experiment with but I’m sure you can rig something up with a buoy on it. I know that I would definitely rig/mount it as close as I could to me as I could and put it through a ring on an anchor trolley for more control. I would at least be able to let all the line out/off of the reel in case of an emergency. Better to buy an anchor than lose everything or be in harms way. Thanks so much for watching and commenting! 🍻

My old town kayak came with a anchor trolley. however it does not have a ring. it has a little wheel the line runs through, then a knot on the other side so the line doesn't slip back through. I want to set it up for quick disconcert. Any ideas?
@FaithsWind

A wheel you say?.. 🤔 hard to visualize. Is it stock or did the previous owner install it? Oh, or is like an anchor “wizard”? Those just run straight off the bow or stern. If it’s a wizard it’s going to be almost impossible. Man, that’s a thinker right there! Either way, if it is a wizard style it might be easier to simply remove it and install a trolley like yak attack makes. I’ll put my thinker in high gear for ya and reply if anything pops out at me. Thanks for the question.

@@FaithsWind Got a dumb question, do you ever use a drift sock and anchor at the same time? Is it just one or the other? P.s installing my anchor trolly today!
@FaithsWind
3 жыл бұрын
@@mckattk837 great question! I have used an anchor sock with some success. I wouldn’t use one while anchored though. All it does is put too much stress on your anchor system. If you have a trolley set up it will turn your yak to the desired position. Especially if you have a rudder. Remember, an anchor sock is for steadying you in a particular direction will drifting, and to slow the yak in higher winds. But even in opposing winds you will still move in a yak. They are just too light to fully stabilize with socks. I would recommend using a drag chain or something like that to slow drifting in higher winds and currents. 👍

Back in the day (in the ‘80s) my brothers and I used to fish and skin dive out of a canoe on the reefs of the mid-west coast of Western Australia. We used to use a pair of old break drums tied to a piece of rope as an anchor! Worked surprisingly well.

Where do you buy the bouy?
@FaithsWind

Most tackle shops down here in Florida sell them. You can use anything that floats and can be attached. I honestly find one almost every trip in the Mangroves that was washed up. You can also use a pool noodle. 😉 Thanks for watching and commenting! 🍻

@@FaithsWind what type of ropes do you use? I assume some are stronger and some hold up better in the water and some are more expensive.
@FaithsWind

@@corylowe5557 any mid range 1/4 to 3/8 line will work just fine. I used a 3/8 line from Walmart. I think it was like $6. Remember your only using up to a 5lb weight. If you need more than that your in rougher stuff and probably should not be trying to anchor.

About to start kayak fishing. I've seen a lot of videos about the retractable anchor system, but you bring up a great point at needing a quick release. One question about doing it this way, do you let all of your anchor line out everything you put your anchor out, and if so do you find out inconvenient to have to bring it all back up when you are done?
@FaithsWind
3 жыл бұрын
Great question! I only keep about 15 feet of anchor line in the water. This means my entire line is only around 20 feet or so. So yes, I use all my line every time I anchor. With that said I do only anchor in less than 10 feet of water 99% of the time. There are ways to create “stops” or “breaks” in longer anchor lines. Basically if you have a lot of line and you know your going to be in shallow water that day, you can “coil” some line up and temporarily tie a clasp closer to the shorter length your going to use. That way you can use only one line for different trips. Or, what I actually do is have a long set up and a short set up and just use whichever one I need that day. Again; I’ve only had to use my longer line like 3 times in the last 2 years 😂

Ron Daszkiewicz thanks so much for watching. NO please don’t ever use anything in scupper holes! This is the weakest part of the plastic on almost every kayak that is roto-molded.
