Kayak gloves that will keep your hands warm. Most paddling gloves make you feel like you don't have a good grip. Not these ones.

If you are looking for warm kayaking gloves that keep your hands warm, but you don't want to lose any agility, and still be able to put on your spray skirt, and grip your paddle with confidence and control I think you found them with the NRS Maverick kayaking gloves. They are made of 2mm neoprene, and a titanium laminate to provide warmth and dexterity.
The seams are glued, and are totally waterproof. In my testing I didn't feel a single drop of water enter these kayak gloves. I have tried a lot of paddling gloves over the years, and these are the first that actually keep the water out. They are also the first to keep my wrists warm and dry.
It's very important to have kayaking gloves that keep your wrist dry and warm, otherwise your blood will cool down on its way to the hands, and you will not have warm hands. And it will also reduce your ability to move your wrists quickly to do a fast brace. A good pair of paddling gloves will keep your wrists warm so you don't have to have thick gloves to keep your hands warm.
If you do end up wearing thick kayak gloves, you will find that you don't feel in control. You will have a hard time gripping the paddle, and you will not have confidence in rough water, and if you do go in rough water you may end up capsizing because you don't have a good grip on your paddle.
The Maverick kayaking gloves have a small opening at the wrist to keep the water out. The fabric for the glove opening is very stretchy, and it is easy to put these kayak gloves on. There is nothing like fighting with your paddling gloves just to get them on. Especially if your hands are already cold.
I used to think that only kayaking mitts would be warm enough, but after paddling with these kayak gloves, I am sold on them. Mitts make it very hard to do anything without having to take them off, and they tend to be hard to put on. I also find I get a way better grip on the paddle wearing kayak gloves. And that's important when paddling in rough water.
In this video I will show you the new kayaking gloves I got, and how they perform. The main reason for wearing gloves is of course to keep your hands from getting cold. What I find with most gloves or mitts I have tried is that they do a poor job or protecting your wrist, and since the blood has to pass near the surface of the skin to get to the hands, a big part of keeping your hands warm is protecting the wrist.
When your wrists get cold, they don't move as fast, and when you need to change the angle of the paddle quickly, for bracing, that can be a problem. Warm wrists mean a lot more control in rough water. That's why I wanted to try these gloves. The small opening looked like it would give me that protection, and control.
The first thing I noticed with these gloves is how supple they are. They were easy to put on, and I feel comfortable putting on my spray skirt, and was even able to get my hood on without taking them off. That's a first.
The next thing I noticed is how well I can grip the paddle. I really feel like I have control. Even in rough water.
So after a few hours of this kind of stuff, my hands and my wrists were comfortable and warm. There was a little bit of moisture on my hands, probably from sweat, but I didn't feel any cold water coming in, even after a few rolls.
