I just received my FPK365. It works as advertised. My wife had the pedal drive might unlatch every once in a while. I didn't experience any issues like that. All you have to do is push it back down -- no big deal. I plan to wedge a piece of foam. Super easy fix. I don't have any feedback around longevity but so far so good!

Even better than the foam is to lubricate. I started to experience the issue myself and it became frequent. I read some old Hobie forum post where it was determined that the rotating shaft would walk its way out of the latch. The shaft rotates if there's too much friction with the pedal. I got some Super Lube silicon grease with PTFE and lubed up the shaft. I took the shaft out with a soft mallet. Cleaned off the old grease. Put on a light coat of Super Lube and reinstalled. I might have gotten away with just lubing the shaft ends where it contacts the latch. I tried it out today and it was perfect. Easy maintenance process.

Really good presentation, thanks! A couple of quick questions, did you try to fit the grey Hobie Mirage Fin drive in the Saturn drive socket? Any fails yet of the Saturns' fin drive system that you know of?
@dustyroadadventure

Hello, Yes, we did try to fit the hobie drive into the Saturn, it wouldn't fit. The hobie has some guide pins that just stick out too far and make the drive system a bit too wide to fit the Saturn slot. The hobie drive could easily be modified to fit by shaving those plastic pins down a bit. I'll probably do that in the future, the reverse system is nice to have. As far as the Saturn drive system- we would highly recommend backing out all the screws as well as the bar on the leading edge of the fins and adding some locktite. We noticed that the back and forth action of the fins would cause the bar to twist out causing the fin to flop around. Other than some loose bolts, the drive system is holding up well, nothing broken yet Glad you enjoyed the vid!

@@dustyroadadventure OK, thanks for the in depth reply. The Hobie fin drives are no shining example of reliability as well, and even though spare parts are available, they seem way proud of them. The Propel type drive that comes on the PK365 v2.0 is probably a safer bet, as its issues are easily solvable. Also, for my use case weeds and ground clearance are minor concerns. Either way, I won't be buying for another 9 months so I'll keep checking for longer term reviews.

Saturn fpk only needs a rudder system that is stock designed in and it would be perfect. Im thinking of pulling the trigger on a lightning sup with fin system plus it has built in rudder stock.

I am seriously considering this rig! 3k is way too much for a yak that most reviews/reviewers have some kind of issue with. $8oo seems like a good price to settle for less, cause sometimes less is more, lol. I see they have a regular crank style. Any regrets with the fins, (other than the fixes you mentioned below)?

@@B.A.Bassangler Hello, I don't have any regrets with the fins, I like the low draft they provide vs having to remove a propeller drive every time you get close to shore

@@dustyroadadventure sorry to bug you again...can you flip the fins around to pedal in reverse? Just a thought for working a shoreline with fins & and an oar, depending on wind.

How’s inflatable holding up? How’s the pedal drive
@kchididdy

My pedal drive shaft started to disengage from the latches on the rotomolded drive well. The old generation Hobie drives had the same problem. If/when the shaft rotates (ideally it shouldn't at all), it walks its way out of the latch due to excessive friction. The fix is to lubricate it with grease. I went one step further and malleted the shaft out to clean and lube the interface between the shaft and pedal pivot point. I pedaled for hours today and it didn't have any issues this time. This will be a regular maintenance process but it's super quick and simple. I've only used my boat 4 times. Too early to comment on hull longevity.

@@scrich2929 Hello, we have no problem standing and casting on the Saturn, the pontoon sides make it really stable. I'm sure that if someone is able to stand on other kayaks they would be able to stand on the Saturn as well. We have let many people ride the kayak and nobody has had stability issues

The Hobie Mirage weights twice as much and costs 4 times as much as the Saturn FPK. Mirage can go in reverse but that is the only advantage over the Saturn.

Hello, Yes, I have added a hand controlled steering system. I ordered the Pelican MH10 rudder lever kit and use it on my kayak. The rudder system is only around $30 from pelican and I do recommend it
