I have a vivid memory of this commercial too during Saturday morning cartoons. It would make me cry as a 5 year old...to this day I clean up roads in my spare time here in Pennsylvania. Last week 35 bags of trash off of one 4 mile stretch, nit to mention 5 tires, bed frame and truck bumper. That commercial had a huge impact on me.

I have a vivid memory of this commercial. It was powerful for a preteen growing up in the seventies. I can't stand seeing lazy people throw things out of their car to this day or seeing people throw trash in the streets sometimes while standing next to a can.

They didn't even bother to get a real "Indian" (Native American)! This was a scam and it started the entire scheme by the left to get people to throw money at them while they made millions of dollars off carbon credits while the rest of the world pollution grew astronomically...and people bought cheap Chinese goods instead and they trashed the oceans! They are the worlds largest producer of pollution, yet you keep buying cheap shit from Amazon...

I remember as a kid in the 1970's they had those tear-off tabs on the tops of soda cans and beers cans, before the can manufacturers finally went with the current tabs that just push open. Those tear-off tabs were everywhere, laying on the ground. Some people would open their cans and put that tabs inside the cans, but that was kind of dangerous because you had a chance of swallowing it.

inbredagogo That's what my dad said. Being from 1990, I have never seen an American beverage with pull-tabs, however they still use them in Egypt. I clean lands almost every day, and I come across absolutely ANCIENT, decayed ring tabs about 4 inches under the surface soil on roadsides. My dad told me they are 40 years old.

Let me tell you about things in the 1950's and early 60's when I was a kid. I grew up in a very small, pop 350, town in the middle of corn country. Very clean with plenty of fresh air right? Wrong. The county dump was about a mile south of town. Every night all the garbage was burned. When we had a south breeze, which was quite common, the smoke would roll into town like the fog in San Francisco. I can still remember my dad going thru the house and closing all the windows while cussing out the people at the dump. And this was before most people had AC, which made for a very hot house. And then there was the mosquito spraying. The town had an old pickup with a fogger. Most nights in the summer they would spray for mosquitos. They sprayed with DDT, which for those of you too young to remember, was an insecticide which was banned in the 60's. We would get on our bikes and ride behind the fogger, pretending we were flying thru the clouds. As far as water goes, there was a well for about every 3 homes. The problem is that there was also a septic field for each home usually very close to the wells. Also in the summer all of our pea gravel roads were sprayed with used oils from auto garages and industries from some of the larger town in our area. What would people say nowadays if this was their town? One thing I can say for the Hippies is that they did get a lot of this pollution cleaned up. Good job!

I just saw where National Congress of American Indians was given all rights to this ad, and plan to bury it. I remember seeing this when I was about 20 (early 70s) and the first thought I had was that (finally) someone put something out that respected and recognized the Native American viewpoint. Yet, the organization mentioned above says that this ad was "inappropriate" from the very start. If that is what a broad cross-section of Native Americans feel, then so be it, I can accept that. But, if it is just the members of the Board of Directors of the National Congress of American Indians saying that, then I would like to suggest a poll of all recognized tribal members to learn what THEY think of it. Please, some tell why the message and presentation of this ad was inappropriate.

Well, I don't know. Dressing a guy who's 100% Italian up as a Native American might not be overtly racist, but what...they couldn't find ANY Native Americans who could row a canoe, stand around and cry on cue? If there's anything racist, it might be that the makers of this ad didn't think a Native American was talented enough to do this, but "Iron Eyes Cody" was NOT a Native American... Iron Eyes Cody (born Espera Oscar de Corti April 3, 1904 - January 4, 1999) was an American actor born in Louisiana. Going by the name of Iron Eyes Cody, he portrayed Native Americans in Hollywood films.[1] In 1996, his 100 percent Italian ancestry was confirmed by his half-sister. - WikiPedia

Steven Richmond Of course it is racist.. You have one race clearly shaming another race, using a 100% italian actor dressed up as a native american. But then it is attacking whites, which by twisted PC rules can never ever be racist. Wonder how that will change here in Texas when whites become a minority a few years from now?

Native people hardly create any waste or trash at all. Everything they eat they grow or hunt and they share all extras with there neighbors. Everything they make comes from nature and is biodegradable. They don't make "disposable" products, they make usable products to last forever and hand them down for generations.
