Pay attention. He's talking about the downtown area of Frankfort. Those box-marts are out by the interstate, well outside of the central business district.

I appreciate the message, but Frankfort is filled with the chains, and all the local places struggle.

You CAN change that. You know that, yea? Maybe organize. My friend told me decades ago that to change the world, start where u r. It spreads.

On the "tour bus tour" in this same series, Henry also says that his tour bus will go to a Walmart to load up on supplies. He's only saying here that the downtown business owners have gathered together to keep the Walmarts out, not that they succeeded. "Striking back". George Bush said that there were weapons of mass destruction in Iraq and killed thousands of people. None were found.

I think Frankfort's effort to stay local is awesome. The local business couldn't do it without the local consumer. This is Capitalism and Community at its finest. (Yes, we capitalists do believe in community.) I am so stoked the Henry Rollins is doing this.

Please provide a proposal from Walmart where they have stated they want to build a store in downtown Frankfort. If that is the way you see this, then not only is Rollins even MORE FOS, but the idea is asinine. There is not enough open space in downtown Frankfort to build a Walmart,...there isn't even enough space to build a parking lot for a Walmart. He might as well have been protesting the "installation of ashtrays" in a non-smoking building....

East Aurora, N.Y kept out Walmart. If the local politicians voted for it they would have been voted out of office. It wasn’t an idle threat. The "downtown" is thriving.

"The town 15 minutes away from me has a ban on any commercial chain setting up shop in downtown (they wouldn't even let a Subway in)." I don't know how much I agree with that; tho, perhaps I am somewhat biased since the Subway's that I've eaten at have made me some of the best tasting sandwiches that I've ever had... So, I really like Subway. But, it's not like Subway as a company is going to go out of business bc they got locked out of a handful of markets, ..

The local vendors have gotten together to ensure that the consumers in Frankfort, KY, must pay more for the products they need and must, therefore, endure a lower standard of living and an overall weaker economy. Since when is a hard working single mother trying to put food on the table and clothes in the closet for her kids by spending as few of her hard earned dollars as possible "the big guys" that need to be fought. She IS, after all, who the local vendors are hurting.

...in however many individual local communities, considering the number of markets that they are in, worldwide. Supposedly, about 38,000 stores in about 100 countries. With that said, this is about the "mom & pop" stores. Keeping as many of them in business as possible. And it is possible to overdo it. Buy & large, tho, this is an idea that I think is a great one.

I haven't seen an Arby's in years... Arby's and Subway were always good, for me at least, i.e., around my way. But, since each one is, supposedly, an individually owned franchise then perhaps the ones that you have eaten at, where this applies, are franchises that are just run poorly. That sucks!

Subway has gotten as bad as Arby's. They are both delicious if you enjoy a bun with very little meat in between.
