I don't know who this guy is, but he's spitting solid advice. Whether you are new to the prep/tactical ready lifestyle, or you are a veteran who used these tips because you were military, an outdoorsman/woman who needs a reminder. This is good stuff. Regarding radios, I would like to see a more in depth overview. There are many different radio types. From CB (Citizen Band), FRS (Family Radio Service), GMRS (General Mobile Radio Service), HAM (Amateur Radio) to MURS and so on. It's crucial for a family to select what will best serve their needs. However, having hand-held and mobile (vehicle) coms other than cell-phones is crucial as it is independent and unaffected by power outages etc. CB radios are the old standby. Not as used today nationally as it once was (Smokey and the Bandit style). The most common hand held coms is FRS, the radio you can get at Walmart. They are FCC license free, low power with a direct line of sight range of a few miles. The radio type growing the most is GMRS, as this is HAM light. It still requires a license but does not require a test and a family under the FCC is considered a license holder under the main licensee. GMRS radios are not as powerful as HAM, but they can use repeaters to extend the range hundreds of miles. Also GMRS radios can communicate with Walmart bought FRS radios as they have a few shared frequencies. This might be the best option, and is what I use. EDIT: I have several GMRS and HAM radios from Baofeng and Tidradio. Recently I bought a two-pack Tidradio TD-H3. These are dual HAM/GMRS radios. Smaller than my other Baofengs. These are now my favorite hand-held radios.

I work 27 miles from home. My bag is similar but I have a KelTec Sub 2000 along with a bail out bag with side arm and mags and an AR in a discreet bag. I have a hoodie, jeans and Kent wool socks. I am light on water and have thought of a Camelbak and you’re right to have it, so I’m going to add one. I mean you can stow a lot of stuff in a quad cab truck in case it’s as simple as a short walk home or Red Dawn. But also, something I never here people speak of is their wife and kids. My kids are on their own now, but my wife is only 20 miles from home when working, but it’ll make my trek longer as I’ve instructed her to stay at work and hunker down if it’s all gone crazy and I’m coming to her. And we will go home together.

Full face or nothing, pretty well everything you need a gas mask for effects the eyes. A half mask respirator would need sealed goggles to with it, or there is not much point. Separate mask and goggles is too much trouble, just get a proper gas mask from the start and you'll be covered. Oh and those half face respirators aren't made with butyl rubber so chemical weapons could easily melt them, good luck 😉🤣.

Can we talk logistics? What situation would warrant abandoning your vehicle? Is the thought that this bag could get you from a hot zone of riots and looting to a safer area? Who’d pick you up from the safer area? Your wife and kids? Most people drive a half hour to an hour to work. So the distance from home may be 30-60 highway miles away from home. Depending on your fitness level, that could be a multi day journey which would require shelter and a sleep system. Seems like you’d need a secondary transportation method like a bike to make that kind of journey in one day. Sorry just seems like this advice assumes your job is like 10 miles away, unless this is for when you’re just running errands around town on the weekend

This is more of a generic overview to get people's wheels spinning. This specific pack is in the context of a shorter commute, and with the assumption that for whatever reason, you have to just lock your vehicle and rough it on foot. Roadblock, natural disaster (see the recent fires in Hawaii to see real world examples of folks abandoning their vehicles and walking just to get home), riots, or in the case of this video's intro: some sort of attack causing havoc, could all be possibilities. Of course, if your commute was 30-60 miles, this would be a totally different setup and a much bigger bag. I'd love to hear what you recommend folks who live 30-60 miles from work!

Have you ever thought about a 4 way water key? Behind many businesses there are waterspouts that can be accessed with one of these for some emergency water. I would also include some shade cloth that you can hang over your hat if you're in a high UV area. You can get extra miles in a hike if that sun isn't sapping your energy. The balaclava mask could work for that, but it makes you look suspicious if it's not winter, and it's most likely hotter to wear. And gloves, because you're hands are super important too, and sometimes you have to touch stuff that isn't trustworthy and/or may cut you up. Just the mental security of a pair of gloves speeds up iffy feeling work that you may have to do.

I've hiked, backpacked, and even now in my 60's carry a 20-25 pound load 355 days a year averaging 3 miles a day. I've camped with full gear and with a blanket, a knife and twine. If you have any kind of bag for an emergency, you should practice carrying it. Do the road work, how far and how fast. Most of us can travel much faster with little weight rather than carrying a pack. Re-evaluate what you carry after spending a day or two with it. I would always have cash in that pack and before starting out distribute it across my wallet, pack and pockets. If I worked in shoes that would not be comfortable on the road I would have well broken in sneakers or walking boots with the pack. Being able to hike 25 miles in 8 hours is even more of an essential skill. The more weight you carry the longer you will be on the road. Finally, if within 4 miles of the house, ditch the pack and double time it. Getting home quick is more important than the stuff. 4 miles at is 40 minutes. if trudging with the pack 4 miles is 90 minutes.

I appreciate your opinion and feedback on my lighting setup, though I disagree, as I was going for a 90° up-light as my main key (literally had the fixture and softbox laying on the ground and pointing up, mostly due to space restrictions in the office this week) and I got the look I was going for. I do not like the "KZitem" look where everything is exposed to crap and the highlights are blown out. I typically like to shoot from the shadows and add dimension to my shots. That's ok if it's not your particular look! There's plenty of other youtube channels overexposing their skintones out there! I do like gas masks and think they're great to have. Definitely a good idea for a get home bag for some folks.

Get home plan doesn't just have to be just on foot. So in most situations I keep enough fuel in my vehicle to get me home. Including if I need to take a longer way home. I understand on longer trips one tank not being enough. Being out and not being able to get fuel would be one reason for having to take to foot. My truck has a heavy custom front bumper and grill guard. I can within reason push some things out of the way. A rear locker and a Eaton truetrac up front. A detailed paper map so even remote roads are an option. Not that I don't have a bag with me, but the vehicle is still my first preparation for get home.
@ctznarmory
Ай бұрын
This is a great point! Of course we don't want to abandon on-foot if at all possible. Unfortunately, as we saw with the roadblocks in Hawaii during the fires, sometimes government folks don't want you to go any further and will blockade the way forward. I do like the idea of just running over stuff and brute forcing my way home in a big ole truck, though. 👍
@baddrivercam
Ай бұрын
@@ctznarmory I totally understand by vehicle is not always an option. I was just saying there's things you can do to improve the odds. The biggest being enough gas. If it's that bad you know stopping to fuel won't be an option either. There were people who drove and walked out in Maui. They just had to be creative. Do what you have to so you can survive, even if it means a court date down the road.
