This intro is out of this world. You know the tune is coming and yet this is a song of its own which takes an unexpected poetic path to light. Only Keith Jarrett has the mastery to achieve this level of perfection

Jeeze, Jarrett not only "inhabits," but he travels through, unravels and takes his listeners along on the journey of a song that you never realized was there to be explored in the first place...he's never less than profound. It's a gift to be alive while he's creating music!

Originally in ballad form written by Harry Warren & Mack Gordon for the 1945 movie, DIAMOND HORSESHOE sung by Dick Haymes, but delivered beautifully by Keith Jarrett's trio in an up-tempo Latin jazz sound. A well composed ballad can handle most any tempo as shown here. Keith once said much of his improv influenced by classical music, Bach in particular..

True, you cannot find the same lick two times in a whole album, and this thing is quite... frightening... It's hard even to think reaching a genius like him. But in my opinion every musician should take example from his total and so intense involvement of mind, body and soul in one great creative efford, that leads to that music, PURE music. Every one can do this, and the degree you reach depends fundamentally on HOW INTENSELY YOU WANT to reach an artistic target..

Playing and listening to so much music almost all the time, from classical, baroque, brazilian, jazz including Evans,BradMehldau,Corea,Hancock, ambient, progressive rock,etc.. Everytime I go back to Jarrett I feel he is an inch ahead of everyone in regards to depth of expression. But it is a monumental inch! This is just my own perception. is it me you're talking to, vibrantZebra1? if so, let me tell you this: I have no expectations of getting married to KJ. I don't even expect to see him in a live performance at this point. now, let's suppose he is what you say he is, so what? I love the genius in KJ. I love his music as madly as he can be mad at it himself. I share this madness with him, I'd say. I worship the man, he is a god to me. I listen to him every single day in my life. there's no greater pianist/musician to me. so, why shouldn't I adore Keith Jarrett, he being or not being the asshole some claim him to be? he behaves like a prima donna? he's not nice to people around him? what do you mean? why should I care? is there anything I can do about it, or anybody else for that matter? I won't stop loving Keith Jarrett for this or that reason. I shall die in love with his playing, I can't help it. his music talks to my soul. period.

@ausrotten9 He has an income that can support the maintenance on his body. Besides he's already broken down once before and since then doesn't play too often per year. It is incredibly difficult to understand how he can maintain perfect control over technique, sound and everything despite his posture(s). But that just shows how involved he is. It's at least 120%; that's what it takes.

@jazzflutist .. Nobody can share a tooth pain... So if you need an explanation of a sunrise or an eclipse.. probably you are blocked in your deepest sensibility... The music, as the same as all Beaux Arts, can't be explained.. just can be tasted, lived and the body or mind can enjoy and feel the essence, but not explained...

Keith's great contribution to jazz was his rescuing the music from the "folkiness and slickness" of smooth jazz and committing himself to the "standards." Without the Great American Songbook, jazz becomes a hodgepodge of meaningless, ephemeral licks instead of an art grounded in different era's. Like take "Body and Soul" and trace its interpretations from Hawk to Rollins to Stitt to Getz and, finally, to Coltrane.

As of 3:30 , very distracting and overly dramatic Keith's squirming and twitching and moaning and groaning. Is he at the piano, or on the toilet. We all know he's very musically sensitive, but give it a fuckin break & play it straight already. If I wanted a visual performance I'd go to the circus -as much as I am scared of clowns- This piece is called "Bowel Movement #2" to be played Molto Pinchatto, from his album Cuasimodo Blues.
