Phil Pico has commented on many of the things I was going to say around noise, lighting and instructions so I won't repeat them other than to agree that a link to the instruction video would have been very helpful. It's certainly takes a little bit of a leap of faith to pay £800 for a cleaning machine (for me anyway) but here's my initial critique after cleaning several records, both new and those up to 50 years old 1. The improvement in sound quality in older records is truly transformational. Of course they've had years of dirt build up and mine have never had a proper clean but, wow!, they never sounded so good. For new records the difference isn't as noticeable but you would expect that, and I am convinced by the argument that it removes manufacturing residue thereby giving the record the best start in life, and protecting an expensive stylus. At around 35p / 50c per clean it's cheaper than a PVC cover for your cherished record. 2. The bamboo construction will no doubt split opinions. For me it makes the machine still look a little like a prototype and being natural wood, of course, there are small blemishes. Also the bamboo arm feels a little lightweight in a construction sense so time will tell how it fares over 20 years. Again however, after speaking to the team at KM, I'm convinced that the core of the machine - the bits you don't see - are built to last so it's more of an aesthetic consideration. 3. I'm going to order a couple of cheap pipettes online to administer the cleaning fluid. The method of using it straight from the bottle isn't very elegant, in fact it's a bit hit and miss because of the nozzle on the bottle and usually results in too much expensive fluid being used or getting some on the label. I might suggest adding one or two to the box to Keith Monks, wholesale they'd cost about 5p each. 4. Lighting - the remote has to be pointed pretty close to the machine, it won't work from a normal "TV remote" distance. 5. Rather than the bamboo "coffin lid" I'd have preferred the option of an acrylic dust cover. It would look better in my opinion and also enable the lighting feature to be shown to best effect. Although some may see the lighting as a little gimmicky I like it. 6. I agree with Phil Pico that an additional wand / brush would be helpful. The brush does pick up quite a bit of fluff / dust from the record. I'm not even sure where to buy one from although it does say they're available. In summary then, the aesthetics might not be for everyone and there's a bit of smoothing needed to the transition from prototype to retail from a user experience, but if you want clean records for what is ultimately a fair price then you will be delighted. Hifi enthusiasts are generally happy to pay about the same price for a power upgrade for a turntable or a phono stage, but making the actual record the best it can be surely has to be the best upgrade for the price.

First, a big shout out to Audio-Element, Pasadena, CA. & Ian Forte for facilitating the sale of my new Prodigy! Out of the box, it looked lovely enough to put on display. The Prodigy works just as shown in the video and cleaned specks of dust and dirt I did not know existed on my vinyl (old and new). It is very simple to use after reviewing the website’s video (a PDF instruction link would be nice). The Prodigy is not “Super Silent” but it does not sound like an industrial vacuum either. I like my music loud so the noise was no bother. Contrary to other comments, the lighting, in my opinion, allows The Prodigy to add to your room’s decor. Yes, the lighting does not clean the records (perhaps Keith Monk can come up with an infrared light to wipe all germs off vinyl!) but the lights are a nice touch to the unit (my wife commented how pretty it was). My recommendations: a PDF instruction booklet, an extra microfibre washing wand (some of my records were dirty, indeed) and, last but not least, buy from Audio-Element, those guys and gals are wonderful!

I'm all for record cleaning but 'Bamboo materials isolate noise and vibration' c'mon - what are you saying, just by having this in my room my records are going to sound better because it's made of bamboo? Cut the cr*p. The lighting is pointless. It would be better if it came with a clamp that covered the record label. Otherwise if it does as good a job as the Keith Monks I've had some of my second hand records cleaned with in my hifi shop I'm sure it's a decent record cleaner.
