On the Money! Slowed down intro much closer to the original! You can really feel the power of this incredible song. Much better than recent live Stones. which I think is much too fast. Thanks Keith for bringing this song back to it’s roots.

Keith looses place sometimes, and isn't ever perfect, because he never plays a song the same way twice... THAT is what is so interesting about him, and the stones live..He always tries for the mood, the groove, and sometimes the right notes gets sacrificed in the effort....I'll live with that any day.

Yeah the guitar on ‘Shelter ‘ on a bootleg I had years ago from the 1972 tour his guitar sounds like a jet plane one foot over your head. Maybe it’s the sustain with reverb building behind it. I don’t know. It ain’t fancy but it’s really good. Kind of like Keith. Lol

Keith creates his own ‘wall of sound’ without the string section and Phil (crazy wig) Spector. Though he did work with the Stones in the 60s and the Beatles neither band could stand him but Lennon used him again on his solo ‘Rock n Roll’ but I really digress.

@cntrydb very concise assesment and I fully agree on every point. I have seen Keith from the front row many times and met him off stage often. The most exciting time is when he and his band are on stage. There is some excitement even they feel and makes them dig deep and switch on big time. It still gives me goose bumps to watch this masterful song being worked hard.

I’ve been a Stones fan since 1967 and even when Keith is full of himself ( which he’s entitled more than most to be) he’s still so cool. He’s rough on the outside but is a sentimental old guy. Never saw him with the Winos or Barbarians but seen him with the Stones 5 times and he’s always smiling and on cloud nine. And it ain’t drugs. It’s pure adrenaline.

C'est qu'en parcourant "Life", Keith est bien plus... "libre dans ses mouvements" avec les Winos et donne une couleur plus ... "roots" à cette chanson. C'est la première fois que je l'entends dans cette version.

Just got done (after viewing Stones first live tv rendering of Sympathy, on David Frost hosted show) writing similar comment--namely; Muhammad Ali, The Rolling Stones, George Carlin--three core elements of my soul. All three spoke Truth to Power, railed against the machine/the man, proved they were the best in the world at what they did, and did not give one solitary fuck what anyone thought of them.

Almost done with his book, and what a book it is. I don't know what the sales have been, but I'll bet this would ultimately sell better than any memoirs from Mick, even though many people would be eager to read Mick's reminiscences as well, and understandably so. Keith just loves the music, page after page, and this keeps his ego in check and helps him tell his story. This is an honest book, and it makes you appreciate his music. Despite ghostwriting help, the real Keith's on every page.

Although I like this rough, down and dirty take on the song, it's not as rousing as it can be when Mick sings / performs it. What their solo stuff makes clear in the first place, for me, is they're most of all special as Glimmer Twins.
