Unfortunately, there were a large group of great country artists that hit their stride at the wrong time. I’m thinking of Ken Mellons, Doug Supernaw, Daryl Singletary, Suzy Boggus, Pam Tillis, and more. They had great “true country” sounds that were overshadowed by “Bro-country” and pop influences in the late 90’s early 00’s. This was the last gasp of a seemingly dead music genre.

I agree. The last REAL country music ended in the mid 1990s. Patty Loveless and "Nothin but the wheel" was another heartbreaker.

This is what I miss...REAL TRADITIONAL COUNTRY MUSIC. The 80s & 90s country music were really good eras for this type of country singers. I just don't understand how most of this trash being played today on country stations is even considered to be country music. This trash being player on country radio stations today is about 2000 miles away from REAL TRADITIONAL COUNTRY MUSIC. THANK GOD FOR MP3 PLAYERS & SMARTPHONES.

What a shame people don't think of this man like I do. He KILLS. I sang in house bands for a living in Augusta Ga from 1990 until my 78 Les Paul crushed m me into dust. I loved EVERY SONG Ken Did, this one that was a "Hit" for me from back then, even a few days ago a DJ friend on air sent me a link to remind me what my band did so well.. I was a blend of Vern , Keith, George, Ken, Tracy, my good friend Daryl Singletary, 2 Hanks, with a little Dwight style flair live (+ I have long hair & used to head bang, love metal, I hump my guitar like Hendrix ect) The point really here is that Ken Melons is one of the best to ever sing what I call "actual country". There's another guy Westley Dennis I loved.. and I loved Listening to Diffe.. But i can't sing like that!

Another great one who got rooted out of country because country was making its downward spiral but nobody seen it until it was too late and when the century turned, country music was put on its death bed and by the mid 2000’s country turned vegetable.
