Quick guide for kendo to hold your sword (tenouchi) to have control but add speed and power to the swing of your sword. Understand how a good grip improves your kendo basics.
I hope you are enjoying my videos and find them useful. I wanted to show how I hold my sword because It is very important to perform any kendo technique, improve our kendo basics, and even avoid any injuries through your kendo training. In this video I show you how to hold your sword, there are a few differences between holding the shinai and a iaito, katana, or shinken; but the concept is the same as we are train ing Japanese swordsmanship, and even though we are not samurai we are learning martial arts related to them. I see many kendo beginners creating bad habits just because of how they hold their sword and I hope that with this video you can get a better understanding and it helps you with your understanding of the kendo basics.
