Here is a basic meaning of the song “Kendrick Lamar details the empty pleasures in the life of a rap star as he elucidates several ways in which he can't help giving into the titular desires. A room full of clothes, sexual lust, and smoking marijuana are all vices whereby the Compton MC finds himself giving into temptation. By the end of the song, Lamar's quoting James 4:4 in the New Testament. "A friend of the world becomes an enemy of God." The rapper is saying that such mindsets promoting selfish desires means you are going against God's will.”

Oh thanks for that info! I've seen a lot of artists do their own takes on a song like this where they talk about that lifestyle from getting big

3:45... what you called it ‘popping off’ is just mainly a rapper flowing or showing off a different cadence within the transition of the song. The same is similar to ‘fear’ but he mostly wanted to convey an emotion or inflection on his voice through three verses / hence the ages of 7/17/27 on the song.

Yeah there's a lot of details that I didn't get from my first playthrough of the songs I've heard from him. I love getting something new out of the music on repeated listens like that

You have a good ear young man. Many people do these reaction vids but talk over the song so they can't understand it. Not true music fans at all (low attention spans) You on the other hand pay attention to detail. Keep it up!!

Kendrick is so good. His stuff from To Pimp A Butterfly is probably some of the best music of all time. A lot of his songs fit into an album btw, to get the full story.

Yeah someone said I should start doing reviews of full albums by artists, it could be neat to do cause you don't really see reactors doing that on this platform much. I might give that a shot with TPAB, thanks for watching!

Bonesy The Skeleton Yeah that’d be nice. I’d actually start with his earlier albums first. He has four studio albums. - Section .80 - Good Kid, m.A.A.d City - To Pimp A Butterfly - DAMN. I’d go in order and or listen to Good Kid Maad City first. His albums all are like a story intertwined together.

I think you should start at “Alright” by kendrick. TPAB as an album isn’t one which u should do just song reactions to bc everything in that album works in the concept of everything else. Alright is a really good inductory track tho. But also some introductory pieces u can also do are: Maad city, Sing about me I’m dying of thirst, King Kunta, How much a Dollar Cost, DNA, ELEMENT, DUCKWORTH

I'm actually thinking about starting some full album reactions/reviews since you don't see that too often on KZitem. People have recommended that album specifically a lot so I might try this out with TPAB. Thanks for all those suggestions, I'll look into doing those songs too sometime!

to the untrained listener, this song sound like an awfull, bad influence on teen song, but he is talking about his addiction, and how it was bad, and that he needs to get over it
