I just watched over 3 days…your 5 hours of the most excellent teaching I could ever ask for!!! I was able to degrease, clean and oil one of my sewing machines. I still have a problem with the feed dog down…not snapping back when lever is put back to up. I can do it manually with the bottom plate off, so I think there is a link missing to the flywheel. I have several machines to fix, all Kenmore, non-computer and I plan to take covers off, compare bits and pieces d pieces until I understand every part. I give these machines to children at the local Boys and Girls Club where I am so lucky to teach sewing as a volunteer. I am teaching these kids how to minimally oil, clean, maintain and troubleshoot their sewing problems. I am looking forward to watching more of your videos!!! Thank you for doing this!!! Geri

You cleaned the lower gear but what about its mating gear? The gears on the one I was cleaning were crusted with that white stiff grease and lint. I don’t know if it sewed before I started cleaning it but it moves freely now. I scraped out both gears and used alcohol on a brush to get the rest. The one on the hook shaft was most difficult to reach but I was patient. Then I used the triflow superior grease. I found a lot of that white lithium type grease other places and cleaned it out. I really like watching your videos. Thanks!

I have a Janome Memory Craft 5000 that is very similar to this machine. I also have the Elna version. You did a great job fixing this one, from dead to perfect stitches. Well done!

Very in-depth Richard, I’ll look for a machine that needs repairing and practice on that and see if I can get it going. Thank you. 🎉

I have a Janome SW2018E that is completely seized up. The motor runs really really sluggish and the hand wheel won’t turn at all. Any suggestions?

One of the most common reasons for a machine locking up is dried oil (varnish) buildup in the bushings on the machine. It probably needs to be cleaned, have the varnish removed and lubricated.

Can you tell us the motor information, size and compare to other Kenmore/Janomes ? I have a Kenmore 385.19110 and trying to find motor size.

@@NancyConnolly-c3d the motor information is printed on the motor itself. Most of the motors are close to the same size as for as HP and amps, the main differences is how they are connected to each machine, screw types, brackets, pulleys and shaft length and design for the pulleys.
