Kenneth Williams a national treasure and comic genius and well-loved as part of the carry-on team, like us all he had his share of frustrations and challenges, that's life I guess, Kenneth many mediums, film, radio, tv he was a truly British national treasure, laughing at us from heaven, I'd like to think.

I remember a few years back, there was a TV show which would take an in depth look at famous TV personality's lives, it was usually a different person for every show, Kenneth's took two episodes, they showed all about his diaries and what he really thought about other people. Voiced 'Willow the Wisp' as well.

They made a movie about his life based on his diaries. Was quite sad he struggled with his sexually and caused a great deal of depression. But he threw himself into his work and loved almost everything he done. Besides the Carry ins he did a lot of voice overs for kid shows and tv commercials. Plus all the radio work. Rip Kenny

He suffered from an ulcer which gave him awful pain. He had been reluctant to have an operation for it, but was finally coming round to the idea. It's a pity that his last years should have been lived in such misery caused by this condition. It's likely his death was accidental as he was making plans for the immediate future, and the dreadful gnawing pain of an ulcer could easily have led to an unintentionally fatal combination of pain-killers and sleeping pills.

How like Audrey Hepburn he was in his youth! A shame he spent too much time in the company of viper Barbara Windsor and her sharp cutting tongue. Doubtless she encouraged the worst of his sourness which was not good for him. I always thought he was a beautiful and intelligent man too often typecast in clown roles. He deserved better - if only he could have made the transition to serious roles like Lenny Henry has since done.

Apparently, he poisend his father, who died, I think if true the guilt of his actions caused his suicide or overdose, but what a loss such a shame for the older generation who grew up on Carry on films.
@rnw2739

That is pure speculation and it is far more plausible that Louie was the culprit. His disdain for his father certainly negates the incident as a reason for his suicide 20 odd years later.

Oh come on, you're talking about a much-loved ACTOR. Who cares if he was over the top - ALL the Ealing comedies were campy and over the top. It is your comment that I find embarrassing - it is so arrogant and needlessly OVER THE TOP AND SO UNCOMPROMISINGLY SUPERFICIAL. I am 82 and straight and thank Kenneth for bringing his own special brand of humour to the world. The Carry On Series of films are as much-loved today as they were when they were made, and Kenneth was part of all that.

Yet light years ahead in class and wit then his fellow gay comedian contempories today, who go into grotesque, stomach churningly graphic detail about gay sexual practices or other hideous facets of homosexual existence (like cottaging 🤢) which they demand, be totally understood by audiences who in fact, are mostly repulsed to the point of nausea.
