Normally I dislike Jazz but for Kenny Ball, I make a big exception.

I wasn't born until 1971 but was privileged to have heard some of the greats of the Trad Jazz revival era who were still playing at the 100 Club in London in the late eighties. There were even a few authentic ageing Tradsters back then, wearing duffel coats, berets and sandals and looking like they'd just come from an Aldermaston march.

Went to meet him and later on Chris Barber in our local town hall. They were all very kind to me as a small boy. This band was incredible when you consider them proper English. It wasn`t part of `our` culture and yet we did this style of jazz just as well as anybody else. Gentlemen they were and Kenny and others sadly missed.
