I worked in Kiddyland at Cedar Point (those of you from northern part of Ohio should know) for a summer. We had to rotate from ride-to-ride every half hour, and one of the rides was a carousel. That was my favorite, cause I loved the music. This brings back good memories!

This brought a wave of nostalgia. The summers of 1967 & 1968 I worked part-time at Joyland Park in Wichita, KS. They had a wonderful old band organ housed in a freestanding structure near the Herschel carousel. When it came to life each afternoon, it was the signal that the park was open. It would play all day, pausing only long enough for the multi-song roll (about 20 tunes) to rewind. When it stopped playing at night that signaled closing time. It wasn't amplified in any way, but you could hear it all over the park. I hope that when Joyland closed, the band organ went to a new owner who cherished it like Stan & Margaret Nelson did.

so the ride lasts about 2 minutes, maybe a little more, and there's about a 4 minute wait until the next ride starts

Was that the ride operator that said "You guys can't come in this way at 6:12 or was that just another guest in the park?

I love the Merry Go Round more than any other thing in Kennywood. I love it so much I think I would die if the idiots who scrapped the Log Jammer ever tore it down.

There were several factors that led to the park's decision to retire the ride. The first and most obvious being the maintenance issues it was riddled with the past few seasons, and the fact that they can't get replacement parts anymore, combined with a lack of ridership- the past few seasons, the queues for it were practically empty, even on the hottest days- led to the park's decision to remove the ride. However, if you want to ride a good log flume, there's always Knoebels...

If that Merry-Go-Round was demolished there would be so much public outcry. There's something special and magical about that old ride. I think my family from Pittsburgh used to ride it and I never felt alone on that ride. When I'm on that old ride I feel like I'm a child again and I can forget about the cares of the world

Bob Gomez In this video it is partially in tune, I think after this recording it was tuned, it's an often occasion when a band organ must be tuned, they are very sensitive to temperature change...

I've been on this carousel there is a magic to it. this is a protected landmark the carousel they just can't tear this down. But the log flume was not historically protected. Some of the older roller coasters and the carousel are protected landmarks

The carousel may be good but the 153 sounds really bad. It sounds nothing like a true 153 and it sounds like one of it's pipes are dying and like it's sick or something. That organ needs to be replaced. Hershey's sounds much better like a true 153. Edit: It was the rolls and the tuning of the organ to a degree that were bad. Wurlitzer rolls are usually quite bland and usually their tunes and arrangements sounded too similar to one another and they did not always make good use of the Wurlitzer 150(which Wurlitzer 153's play) roll frame's musical and instrumental capabilities in most of their arrangements, and nor was the tune choice always good either.

The organ may sound bad in your opinion, but they can’t replace it, since it’s possibly the first 153 made.

@@SnowmisersCollection Having written that years ago I've changed my opinion. Kennywood's isn't THAT badly sounding of a 153 but it's not as pleasant as 153's that haven't had their freins warped or tubing fried. What actually got me was the rolls they put on it, most of which are boring and bland Wurlitzer Fox-Trot/Waltz rolls that are poorly arranged, make no use of the pipe registers and don't make often use of the musical keys. Some wurlitzer rolls are very good, such as 13194 and 13250, but a lot of them are appalingly arranged to me and have a very uncreative musical choice.

@TAC In my opinion the one at Bushnell Park, Hartford CT is the best sounding public one. Canobie and Hershey have brilliant sounding 153's too... but right now Hershey's one is terribly out of tune. Kennywood's can sound great too(except that it is slightly shriller and more hoarse sounding than other 153's, especially if it's unrestored, it could definetely do with another and far more thorough restoration)... what really got me un-satisfied were the rolls it was playing. There are plenty of great rolls, but there are also plenty of terrible ones as well.
