Love his unorthodox style, just realised now that this is probably where my old Japanese fencing captain got his inspiration! He looks like he has so much fun doing it.

I'm just a historical fencing nerd, but I work body mechanics for a living -- this guy's a pure treasure. So lovely to see somebody who's mastered being THAT dynamic and unstable.

perhaps the most unorthodox and at the same time most entertaining fencer on the circuit. Will he be fencing at Tokyo?

The dance routines are really cool. What’s with the speed of light flashing steel things? Oh! They’re swords! Now I get it. Lol. The speed these athletes work at is amazing. I love these fencing videos.

I mean, If he could do fleshes, he would do them, and if legs were in target zone, high jumps as distance pulls would be absent - everything else looks not only cool, but also very solid!

Still confused from the way he pulls back his front leg when jumping (e.g., 1:37). Makes it almost seem like crossstepping.

It's disrespectful to piss on other nations traditional sport and just do as you please. I'm sure if an European would just do kendo as he please the Japanese would be offended the same way.

Imagine if people said this bullshit about any other sports. Was the introduction of the EuroStep in basketball "disrespectful" or was it just innovation? Why do we insist that combat sports should somehow not involve innovation and experimentation? Tokunan isn't breaking any rules, and he's an Olympian, so he knows what he's doing.
