Area held so many interesting story's. The history, pictures of buildings and steamboats were neat. The natural bridge opening underneath for a hike to the river and old old country store were most impressive. Great area to visit.

I've lived in Gravel Switch for over 20 years, and it definitely is a beautiful place to call home. Penn's Store stays quite busy during the summer, as a lot of us spend our weekends swimming and camping nearby at the North Rolling Fork River. Our little town has just as much history, if not more, than many of the largest cities in the U.S. Some of it good, some of it bad, but all interesting...like when John Dillinger robbed the bank here in 1933.

Love Creelsboro. Look at that giant banner "Welcome to Creelsboro" outside of that store like it just gets hundreds of tourists every day. Look at that old mansion-type building. Imagine the lives that lived in that building. I bet it was a very well-off family. Wish it could be restored. Looks beautiful. Bonus trip to bridge!

We're in Kentucky for the first time. That Rocky Hill railroad depot is fantastic. I love old railroad buildings. My mom and I were driving around in Oklahoma back in June looking for some place and while doing so we stumbled onto a town called Dougherty that had this great old railroad building. It was a big building that hadn't been used in ages but back in the day I'll bet it saw a lot of business. That was a great accidental find.

Yeah it was fun to start a new state! I’m going to have some more new ghost town states as well after my Oregon Trail series. I agree that depot was the prize find in Rocky Hill. Love finding those - amazing they are still standing!

You showed pictures of it, but you didn't mention the Creelsboro Country Store built in. 1869 and still has the original shelving. Now with an attached eatery. Went there 2 months ago. Good food and neat items in the store! You should have ate there. Staff was super friendly.

@@TravelwithaWiseguy Yes. It’s a state park with several arches. There’s a Natural Bridge State Park near there too. Exit 33 on the Mountain Parkway. If you know where Morehead State or Eastern Kentucky University then you’ve been close. It’s better than the Natural Bridge in Virginia.

@TravelwithaWiseguy
2 жыл бұрын
It’s spaghetti, chili, and cheese. Seems like a strange combo, but people in that area love it (me included). Chili parlors are everywhere in Cincy and surrounding towns. For a 4-way add beans. 5-way add onions. So that’s how you order it 😊
