Are there 8 or 10 khz filters available from InRad for the R5000 to put on the wide slot? So I was thinking to do 10 6 2,4 and 1,8 khz

Out of curiosity Rob... could you have achieved a different outcome if you modified the original plug in filter crystals?

Thank you for this nice series! I just bought an R-5000 in orginal, stock configuration, and the AM filter is quite poor indeed. I just ordered the INRAD 4KHz and can't wait to get it! I believe that the "even on the Kenwood filter" scripting you mentioned most likely indicates that the stock Kenwood AM filter (and possibly the Kenwood AM YK-88A-1 upgrade filter) never needed those two extra pins on that side of the filter. I think that, to save production costs, Kenwood's filter producer most likely used the 5-pin configuration to avoid having to re-tool to produce a separate 3-pin module.

The Kenwood R-5000 service manual shows that the two inner pins on both sides of the AM filter are redundant ground pins. The middle pin is grounded to the same contact point on the circuit board, so as long as you leave that one pin you have sufficient ground contact. I've seen this INRAD filter installed in the opposite direction and confirmed that the impedance is the same on both sides of the filter, so you can install it either way. So even the original stock, standard Kenwood AM filter does not need them.

AM wants 12 kHz, 8khz, 6khz and 4 kHz but then there is no space for ssb filters
