I delivered both of my daughters using the Lamaze method. I did not want a needle going into my back for an epidural and did not was drugs passing though my system to the baby. Yes, natural childbirth twice and as I say to my friends “I even did it the second time KNOWING what was ahead of me! “. Ha! Some women say they used medical intervention so they could enjoy the birth. I enjoyed both of my experiences because they were on my terms. It takes a stubborn woman to see it through twice. Hmmm…stubborn. That may explain your recent shoulder, ankle and other F word experiences! Lol.

Great to hear of your positive experience with Lamaze! My first baby was difficult due to her positioning, but the second one - easy breezy AND enjoyable! It made me feel like a super-hero, which, let's face it ALL women are in some way! and OMG - have you been talking to my husband? he always says I'm so stubborn...I have to open my mind up more to his wise words 😄

Oh yes. I used the Lamaze method. No pain meds, but I admit I had small, healthy babies (runs in the family) and I delivered quickly. Still, young as I was I never thought it would be pain free. No epidurals for me. I thought it was unhealthy. No judgements though as I apparently have a high pain threshold.

I, too, went with Lamaze childbirth, in 1983. Back then, they called the back injection a "Saddle Block". I was in no way going to have a needle stuck in my spine! The natural childbirth experience is rough, to put it midly. I was in solid pushing mode for over 2 hours and broke just about every blood vessel in my face, as well as, horrible back labor. But, we women are strong and bounce back. Holding our newborn for the first time after chilbirth makes it all worth it. Have a BLESSED day.🥰🙏

Kerry Lou I don't know if you were told in your HRT research that Frozen Shoulder is one of the first signs of menopause!!! You can look this up and see how to deal with it. Don't let them do heroic treatments on you for this - HRT will take care of it!!! Best, Myra

Hi, thanks for this. I'm years into menopause, but I did start HRT Jan of 23, and I believe it's fluctuation of hormones that can bring on frozen shoulder, so maybe that was it. But anyway, the HRT didn't agree with my in other ways, I had to go off of it. I may go to an HRT specialist, and not just my gynecologist and give it another shot. But the good news is that the frozen shoulder is all good now, I have about 95% of ROM back. Thanks again!

@@kerrylou3 I have been on HRT since I was 60 and am now 76. I was lucky enough to get a good doctor at Vanderbilt who put me on Bioidentical hormones which I have been on ever since. I was one of the first women to do this in the United States. Bioidentical is the key to success.

Oh my goodness. You've had quite the challenge recently! If it's any comfort, you are not alone. I often joke with friends that if the horoscope had a sign for Murphy's law, the sign would have my face on it. This past September, we spent a month in Florida, where we're originally from. While there, I needed to find a way to continue doing my p.t. for my scoliosis and lumbar slipped discs. One of the exercises involves lying down and using a tension tube that you pull towards you from behind your head towards torso, like pulley type action. So, I brilliantly thought the heavy-duty laundry tub in the garage would be perfect since it's bolted onto the wall and has strong metal legs. Long story short, I'm on count #3 of 10 when I hear a loud banging sound, and a second later, my glasses are flying off my face, and something hits just under my nose and upper lip. I was nothing short of stunned. I thought it had broken or loosened my teeth, which are currently in wire braces! I reached up, and what I held in my hand was a triangular piece of metal with a screw and nut still attached to it! And I was also bleeding quit a bit. The metal leg was off to the side. As it turns out, I'm stronger than I thought because I literally tore the leg off the sink, taking its support and the attaching screw and nut! The leg hit the side of my head and knocked my glasses off my face and out of the garage into the driveway. The metal that landed on the face gouged the skin just under my right nostril and left a scratch above my upper lip, which is where the blood was coming from. So, it was sink-1, yours truly -0. We are now in late October, and I still have a miniscule bump where the gouge was and still have a mark left from the scratch. The sink leg has been haphazardly attached for the time being (sort of like a peg leg), and the story has become the joke of the year among friends and family. So, take heart, you are definitely not alone in your struggles. 😊 Oh, and I also did lamaze with all 3 of my births. 😊

@kerrylou3 if there's one thing I'm grateful for, it's my sense of humor, which includes being able to laugh at myself....which being a poster child for Murphy's Law is practically a prerequisite. I couldn’t open your like to the New York Times because you had to subscribe. I am 78 and when I turned 60, after hearing a lecture by an OBGYN Dr., I started using Bioidentical Hormone Replacement. This consists of a yearly blood test to check my hormone levels of Estrogen, Progesterone and Testosterone. I then took that prescription to a compounding pharmacy where they made up a cream just for me. I apply it morning and night. The more I read about the importance of hormones and how our body uses them for physical emotional and mental well being, the more I am that I started on this path. When I first started using the cream, I asked the doctor “ how long do I have to take this?” He replied” how long do you want to feel fantastic?” These hormones are called Bioidentical because the pharmacist takes a substance and changes the molecular structure to exactly match the hormone your body would be making if it was still manufacturing this in your body! Good luck to all going forward. I wish you the best of health.❤️❤️❤️

I'm in my mid 70s and I have had two frozen shoulders. What I learned was that you must take enough Motrin (Ibuprofen) to knock off the pain and don't let the pain return. Keep antacid or some food on your stomach though. Keep taking it at regular intervals and for as many days as it takes for the shoulder to return to normal. Motrin is good for inflammation, and that's what a frozen shoulder is. All the dr. appts I feel are not worth the time or money. I enjoyed this video. Thanks

It was great hearing that I’m not the only one who has had problems. I had five surgeries in five years. The last one was over five years ago. And I have been pretty healthy since then. I was only 55 when my problems started. But now I’m 64 and doing great. I do have bone spurs in my left shoulder. My bladder has dropped from a hysterectomy. But I’m not letting it get me down. I fell out of bed last year. I have a dent in my hairline now. So you aren’t the only one. I have three small grandkids who I chase after too. They can wear you out. And since June I have been a great grandmother. That kind of made me feel old. But I became a grandmother in my late thirties. So it’s not that bad. I’m hanging in there. My mom and grandmother both lived to their nineties. So I’m hoping for that too. Since I’ve had my problems taken care of.

I would up having the shoulder surgery I KNEW i needed 6 months ago, but like you, i had to endure PTfirst. The original X-ray didn’t show anything (of course) but ultimately the MRI did. Surgery in August and now I’m back at PT but now is when i should be. ANd yes - I’ve had the “horribilis annus “ that you’ve had. I’ve had frozen shoulder on both sides, 2 years apart. The majority of women that get it are at the age where hormones are fluctuating, my dr thinks that can set it off, but it’s a condition they don’t know a lot about. I started hrt after the 2nd one started. The cortisone shot takes a few weeks to kick in all the way and it just helps loosen the capsule so physical therapy can help more. It is a painful condition making every day tasks painful and wakes you up at night when you move. It gets better, but takes a lot of time. I had an mri each time after a few months of physical therapy to rule out other shoulder conditions. Orthopedic, Dr Vonda Wright, has some good instagram posts about it!

Hi Kerry-Lou, (Nanny) hope everything settles down for your trip 'home'. What a lovely thing to look forward to, catching up with family. Loved the makeup tute. I'm only buying single eyeshadows now & I loved the rosie blush. Safe travels, hope you have a wonderful time. Sending an online 'safety aura' to encircle you 😂❤xx

Thank you so much for the "safety aura" I definitely need that it seems! I'm leaving for the UK this coming Wednesday, shoulder hurts today, but at least I'll be distracted by my sisters, they always make me laugh! All the best to you!

Hello, my dear Kerry -Lou! I loved this talk and above all I loved the way you finished, in fact in this actual crazy world we must look around and see how dificult can be some people live! Thank you so much!!!! Have a lovely trip to UK ... you can come to Portugal!!!!!! 💙

Glad you enjoyed it, thanks so much for watching! The upside of going through an injury is that you can see how difficult it is for people with disabilities and conditions (some permanent) many way worse than this. I would love to go to Portugal, I went when I was just 17 years old and loved it!

That was lovely - the makeup and the current “issues” chat😊 I have some friends who never share their issues, leading me to think I’m a train wreck🙄. And I have some who share but then don’t take care of their”niggly” issues, which often become bigger problems. I like open, honest conversations with my aging friends - conversations that move to debriefing what led to the issue and moving to reasonable remedies. We all can learn from each other! Your conversation was one of those and I enjoyed it, as well as the makeup processes. Thanks! Have a wonderful trip!

Thank you so much for your feedback. Yes, we can really help each other by discussing, comparing notes, and sometimes you find good doctors that way also. When I was in the UK I talked alot about health with my older sister who had so much great advice for me! It's like talking to someone who is farther along on a hike, and can warn you of pitfalls you may encounter ahead, and how to avoid! All the best to you on this journey! 😘

Kerry-Lou, you always look so fresh and glowing! Yes, I do remember Lamaze, I took the classes when I had twins over 40 years ago, and it really works! Don't hear of it any more though for some reason. Love your autumn makeup regime ❤

Kerrie Liu you are the sweetest! Yes I can relate. 65 in February. Just got back from UK, first visit. High Tea at Cafe Royale and it was divine. I also had implant and it was a journey as well, which 4 years later fell out. Hip replacement this past May to add to chaos. Love all the make up today. You are truly a beautiful lady

Hi Kerry-Lou. I'm a subscriber to your channel. Love your tips for us older gals. I have shorter hair, with some layers, wanting to grow it out like you did yours, and I have naturally curly hair, any tips on how to let it grow out? Thanks!
@kerrylou3

Thanks for subbing! If you have a hair stylist that you like, let them know your plan to grow out your hair. My stylist would keep trimming the bottom of my hair, more so at the back. This is so you don't get that Mullet look lol! For a while my hair became a curly bob, and as it grew longer, my hairstylist would slightly trim the top layers too if they were getting heavy looking or damaged. Try to work with a stylist that is great with curly hair! If you see a woman with great looking curly hair in your area, stop her, tell her her hair looks great and where did she get it cut? Best of luck to you!

I’m the same age as you Kerry and I feel your pain! For seven months I’ve been struggling with a painful knee after my little dog launched himself at it, full pelt. It was starting to feel a little better when I simply tuned over in bed and…..OUCH! The pain was off the scale. After two days of icing it and anti inflammatory drugs (not many) it feels completely better. I can only imagine I’d popped something out which has now popped back in again. I hope you can continue to enjoy the climbing and your grandchildren for a long long time ❤️

Thanks so much for your kind and empathetic words, I really appreciate it! Regarding the anti-inflamatory drugs - I don't like taking them either - but they can really help, especially if something is "trapped" and you just need that release! Good health to you!

I can identify, since last October (2022) I have had health issue one after another. None that are serious but all requiring multiple doctor and therapy visits. I'm hoping 2024 will be a new and healthy start. For both of us! Your mom was lovely. I lost my mom eleven years ago and I still wake up wanting to call her many days. We are blessed to have had loving moms. Thank you for sharing your life.

🎼 I get knocked down - but I get up again! Like the song, we'll just get back up again! Thanks for your understanding - It's almost a full time job taking care of yourself and all the doctor visits - good job I'm semi-retired! Yes, even though we've a few months to go, I am looking forward to 2024! Here's to us warriors! Thanks 😘

Kerry-Lou, I really enjoyed your talk during makeup application. Thank you for sharing your grief and I offer my sincere condolences, I totally relate to it. My beautiful 96 yo mum died 3 years ago and still miss her every single day. I yearn for her and likely I always will. Thank you for making the effort to make KZitem so that we can all benefit from your knowledge and experiences.

I understand how you feel, do you think your grieving in order to let it go? What if you were to do one new thing that made you feel good, to replace a part of the grief? Maybe after a while there wouldn't be any room left for the grief. If you can't get on top of it, you might find some therapy helpful. Send love and a hug your way! 🌸

It’s tough getting older and as they say, it’s not for sissies. I thank the hormone heavens for my HRT prescribed for me by an understanding and knowledgeable (female) gyno. I have a chronic bad lower back to deal with ( three fusion surgeries so far) and lately, the tear in my left meniscus is giving me problems, so much so that I’m off my feet for a couple of days (at least). Still, life is good. This is actually my favorite time of year, but it looks like I won’t be getting out in it much this time around. But - It’s always great to “see” you. Wishing you well ☺️❤️ (BTW, I still use Just For Men for my brows, a tip from you from years ago)
