Really excellent tutorial. Very clear and comprehensive. Perhaps the best Kestrel instructional video out there.

Hello mate.. best Tutorial i have seen for the Kestrals... Question on the graph.. you saved and a few days or so and every hour too, i was wondering i know you have it on 1 hour interval but in order to save all info you would have to have unit on 24/7 ? or did you just save here and there every day for days?? Also you are saying you wanted the 5500 cause you can scroll the midline graph left or right to the desired time to show that info either temp or wind speed etc, the standard 5000 does all that too.. just dont have compass but we usually carry our cell phone and that has a killer compass so i didnt need the 5500. Now the only beef i have with the 5000 and 5500 which i see in your video is there is no Battery guage on the screen or you cant put it on your custom screen either so you can see temp and humidy and battery percentage, the only time you see the battery guage is on start up screen which is non lite up.. so if you turn your 5500 at night your screen is blank and you cant see your battery guage but once it cycles to your main screen then you can activate the light button and you can see but no battery guage anywhere.. the only time its visible is when you turn unit on and see it on start up screen, i told that to kestrel.. maybe they will have an update later but i would think thats a important info that is needed like a gas guage for your car.

Hiya tbf the battery lasts a very very long time and you can pretty much ignore the level as I see 24% regularly lol use lithium batteries and forget about it Tbh though I probably don’t turn it on all that often it’s kinda there if I’m curious when camping or want air pressure etc for weather predictions. It records all the time. You can reset a start time but it’s constantly recording in the background when off just make sure batteries in it. I will turn it on when out and all history is there for me. Why5500 probably price lol they do loads of options and different sellers have different prices … so for history graphs etc turn it off it’s working in background just turn on when needed look and turn off. I have it set to turn off after five minutes none use. I can’t figure out their app so don’t use it. Thank you for watching and posting comment and kind words.

@@TonyHobbs Ya.. I been using , well i only had my 5000 for a week but i have a pile of alkaline batteries from Costco Duacell so using those up before i get the lithium but I put in a alkaline battery last week and been messing with the unit alot and battery still sez 99% and the reading the Kestrel takes when unit is off and the power it takes to sample say every hour is negligible, so i just have mine on overwrite and when i want a complete few days of readings i have it whether or not, with the lithium Ultra i think you need just 1 battery per year, but i wish the startup screen was lite up.. and im like you i dont use this all the time.. only camping or visting a vacation spot like Hawaii and check the trade winds and Humidity. Thank Again Tony.. Love ur Vids..

How i can get ref Altitude to calibrate my Baro?
@TonyHobbs
Жыл бұрын
Hello GPS on phone might give it to you fairly accurately. Or you'll need OS type mapping to get location and height that way. Or smart watch with GPS on it. If you're in hills then your map tells you.

how to turn off the device after usage?

Press and hold power button bottom left or set it to auto power off for say five minutes or whatever and it'll turn itself off.

The last comment is this unit does fit nicely in your hands but you cant take accurate temp or humidity reading with it cause your body temp and humidity will give your erroneous readings, you need to place the Kestrel on flat surface and dont touch it or hold the unit, you need to hold the Kestrel at very bottom with finger tips only to get more accurate readings if you want to hold it while taking those readings, that was told by Kestrel.

Yes that is true hold low down for accuracy or put on tripod. I have another video unboxing and on tripod it’s pretty basic video before I understood it but you’d get idea.

@@TonyHobbs text Tony yeah I have the 5000 not the 5500 I can’t utilize that wind vane since it doesn’t have compass I noticed a few important features that Kestra doesn’t put in their user manual. You have to figure it out by trial and error or my videos which I look at, including yours, Elise on the 5000 owners manual they don’t say anything about the graft repair to clear the secondary screen and they don’t tell you that when the unit is turned off, it’s still collecting data like temperature humidity, barometric pressure. It does collect heat index and wind sure which is irrelevant sent that units off he doesn’t login wind speed, that has to be recorded when the unit is on anyways, I’m learning that all by myself but nothing in the manual talks about that which is pretty lame

@@TonyHobbs oh one more thing I think you’ve found this out yourself when you calibrate your barometric pressure or your altitude at sea level you can’t if you change your elevation you change your barometric pressure which is logical so if you calibrate the sea level, your barometric pressure is off by how much calibration that on your elevation and when you calibrate your barometric pressure right now, your altitude is off you can’t calibrate one and zero it and calibrate the other they’re both connected so it’s stupid so you have to figure out which one you want to use more than my case parametric pressure is important I know my altitude but I don’t know my barometric pressure and I get my ↑Altitude on my cell phone, which is GPS and that’s Deb Knutson that’s not affected by atmospheric pressure. It’s stable as long as you are connected with enough satellites.
