The big mistake so many people make (due to lots of misinformation) is that as your weight goes down, you _need_ to reduce the fat in your diet, too, because you want your body to burn YOUR fat, not the fat you eat. You need to replace the fat macros with protein macros as your weight drops. This also naturally reduces calories, as you don't need as many to maintain bodily functions as your weight goes down.

Totally agree, keto = fat eating. Most efficient way to run your body , so if you load up with fat energy, you need to burn it, so don't eat crap loads of heavy cream and butter if you aren't doing lots of exercise. I just started keto in June. 30 lbs gone so far. My go-to sweet treat from the beginning is just enough two-good mixed berry yogurt to thinly coat 1/4 cup of blueberries with a tablespoon of whipped cream...As I lose weight, I know it will also have to go. But for now, it has tremendously helped me with my sweet tooth! I knew from the beginning all the keto desserts were for people who had already lost weight and then only occasionally. I have been following IF and Keto for a few years now and I have lost a lot of weight (-170lbs). I credit IF for most of it but I found Keto really helps control my inflammation. I went from at least 2 parts of my body being in constant pain on any given day to zero. Your video (which was great!) just made me look into why I get a stuffy nose after I eat dairy and it is likely inflammation! Not severe enough to make my wrists and hands or knees shut down but enough that I can't breathe through my nose for a couple of hours (and if it is doing that then there is definitely inflammation going on elsewhere in my body). I am going to cut out dairy for a few days and see how it goes. Thanks!

That's a pretty good list. Thanks for sharing it. Even then, after five years, I'm pretty much high-protein, low-carb, and rarely in deep ketosis. I think my body has just gotten good at using ketones so they rarely show up deeply in my blood unless I fast over a day and get a lot of cardio. I'm good with that, actually, as long as my glucose stays low, or if it spikes it doesn't spike too high and stay up long. At this point that's what matters most to me. I've taken to severely limiting cheese and nuts, and pretty much all processed "keto" food is basically a trap or otherwise an issue for me. 95% of the time, I make something wildly simple that's mostly meat and a little cruciferous or very keto-friendly veg. I do get an avocado just about every day in the world that's not a whole day of fasting. After a workout, I allow myself a collagen shake with berries and aminos, and I can see my glucose go right up and right back down. I've avoided keto bread and tortillas (I make pretty simple keto sandwich thins for burgers), but I have to admit a couple times a year I like to pick up a pack of keto hot dog buns into which I can put clean, 100% grass-fed polish sausages from Teton Waters Ranch. It's too bad I can't find clean buns, because they're just too much of a hassle to try to make, and I've never found a great recipe anyway. PS: Sometimes, I'll just make a "bunless polish sandwich" instead, with the polish sausages, caraway, a slice of swiss and top with deli mustard and sauerkraut. I eat that out of a small casserole dish with a knife and fork.

I like Zevia, but most flavors leave me with horrendous indigestion. The only thing in Zevia that could do that, I thought, would be the natural flavors they list. I wrote asking what the natural flavors are exactly. They wouldn't give me an answer. I recently read that maltodextrin can be disguised as "natural flavor". I'm not saying that's what this particular natural flavor is, but if it is, that's probably why it causes issues for me. I cannot tolerate maltodextrin.

I don’t agree with all of that, using the “keto” snacks ect, most are not anywhere near keto as they use net carbs and alcohol sugars subtraction to call it keto. A carb is a carb net carbs are still a higher carb count. Now if you need something like a diet soda to help you get away from reg soda so be it. But I had the same problem with too much fat, too many “net carbs” ect i did not lose weight in fact i gained weight. When I took a class from Dr Westman from Duke Unv He is the top low carb doc in the US, and followed is prescription keto, I started losing, down 42 lbs. he says eat real food, limit fats to 6 tab a day, 4 oz of cheese, and only 20 carbs. You don’t have to do the “clean” Keto, as long as you keep carbs down to 20, limit the fat, 2 cups of salad and one cup of non starchy vegetable’s is all good. Too many companies are trying to cash in on keto, when in reality their food is far from it, with ingredients that spike your blood sugar ect. The point of keto is to keep you blood sugar from spiking in the first place. This is a good video and a good reminder of how not to do some things that people recommend. Thanks for telling your story, like you and I many people do the same thing then give up keto because it didn’t work. It does my bloodwork rocked but I had gained weight. Thank you! (Sorry for the long response)😊

The one thing I've noticed whenever people talk about Keto is weight loss. Its like the only reason they do it is for weight loss. I do Keto-vore now not for weight loss but for healthy eating. I have no need for weight loss. No one ever talks about sustaining a constant weight. When I started Keto I went from 205 to a crazy low of 160. I'm 60 years old 6-1 and looked like a T-shirt on a wire hanger way too thin. I now maintain 175. Eating mostly Carnivore with Keto splashed in. Its easier eating this way actually. I don't shy away from Heavy cream or butter and haven't had any sodas for many many years and no breads of any kind. I'm a carpenter and active with my job so that probably makes up for calorie burn. I honestly think Keto/Low Carb for men vs women is very different as well as other factors of course. My sister in-law brought up a good point about eating whats in season & based on your location from the equator.(vit. D factor) Also fat has two/three times the energy of carbs so logically you need much less to meet energy requirements especially when you are fat adapted. also, eat slower y'all, 20 min. before your tummy lets the noggin know it's full. Don't forget about fasting/level of exercise in the entire keto equation as well. I like bamboo fiber for more authentic baked goods. Pricey but I highly recommend a try. I barely touch fat dough anymore. the ole change it up fairly often to keep your body guessing is always a good rule of thumb. nothing tastes better than when you crave it after letting it go for a time😋 much debate still on the consequences of insulin spikes, lectins, meat profiles, you name it but it's all good. Understanding Inflammation in all it's forms has been one of the best topics to come from all this nutritional study/lifestyle changes which is great. also, I make milk from heavy cream & macadamias R incredible!

Analyzed the difference between last time and this time- the answer was the Keto friendly foods. My first time going keto they didn't exist, so it was basically carnivore. This time I was eating Keto bread, keto tortillas, etc. Switched to straight carnivore 2 weeks ago, I'm down 14 lbs so far. When you consume excessive fat on the keto diet, your body prioritizes burning through that dietary fat instead of targeting stored body fat. This is why I find hyperketosis beneficial for breaking through weight plateaus or shedding those last few pounds on the keto diet. As for soda on keto, I suggest opting for the cleanest option, such as Zevia, which is sweetened only with stevia, the cleanest sugar alternative available.

I'm not sure what's causing inflammation to flare up in my body again along with little to no weight loss the last few months, but I think I'm going to cut back on cheese & dairy for one. Butter too. What do you think about "Vitamin Water Zero Sugar" for replenishing electrolytes? (JSYK: I'm also been on Anastrozole for about a year now. )

I can't have ANY soy because of inflammation. I used to buy Great Value pizza sauce and used it in some quickie meals like turkey pepperoni, mozarella cheese and Tbl pizza sauce on low carb tortilla folded in half and nuked till cheese melted. No more. I'm just making my own out of tomato paste. Saving the GV jars. Always read ingredient labels, more "low carb" tortillas have soy in them too. It's everywhere 😞. The 1 Net Carb bread too. Pretty soon I'll be making everything from scratch.

Anastrozole makes it more difficult to lose weight, but I am having success with intermittent fasting, usually 16:8. I've been on Anastrozole about a year also.

@maryminardi8018 I guess I've been intermittently fasting with my usual eating schedule. I get up and have a large cup of coffee (w/half & half + butter) and don't eat until 1pm-2pm. Light snack around 4:30pm and dinner somewhere between 7-7:30pm.

@primrozie I do read labels, for sure. I do wish the "good for you" Keto pre-made things (mayonnaise, salad dressings, low carb/gluten free breads, chocolate...etc.) weren't so expensive though. Yes, scratch is best.

Wow, I have similar pattern. I wake up so early though, mostly 3:00, that I have to eat first meal a around 10:30. I have a small coffee first thing for many, many years. After that same time frame as you. @@linda-thriftandvintagejunkie

This is an excellent video. I stopped or cut back a lot of these things. Finally i broke my stall! I too am sensitive to dairy. My stomach will bloat if i eat too much and i felt terrible. I also over indulged in pork skins or cracklings. This was too much fat. Thanks so much for this video. This need to be shared every where.

"Pure Sweet" brand of white stevia powder satiates my big sweet tooth. I use about 1/2 heaping teaspoon of it to sweeten a gallon of very sweet tea (even less for coffee).

For those of us that have changed our diet to to, low carb, low sugar, lifestyle for 10 years or longer, you have to reassess. and fine tune your diet.... Luckily, the food industry has caught on somewhat but a lot of the products that are labeled keto are nothing more than processed food to avoid.. I have tried LMNT I find it way to salty even diluted. Good video... I like how you focus keto focus.

The video I was afraid to watch but did anyway 😅 First of all, your skin is gorgeous and glowing Annie!!! This video is pretty much me to a tee, including the heavy cream in 50 cups of coffee per day🤣 I’ve been feeling like dairy is affecting me poorly but I’m still in denial. I’ve given up pasta, bread, rice, pizza, cereal etc. I love, love, love my milk, cheese, butter and heavy cream. I’m just not ready to give it up on top of everything else, but I honestly believe it’s the only thing thats going to get me to my goal. Forty pounds down, perfect labs and most days mentally clear-headed. The last ten pounds and full mental clarity elude me no matter what I try. The ONLY left for me to do is lose the dairy. 😢 Please tell me it isn’t so 😭😂

This helps so much! I’ve been doing keto for 5 months and I’ve lost 30lbs but I lost most of that in the first 3 months. The last 2 months have been a big stall for me and I haven’t hardly lost any weight. This helps though, I’m going to try to implement these suggestions. I think the big ones for me were not eating so much keto dessert. And keto labled foods and so much dairy.

I have been eating low carb for years...more of the Atkins style than Keto, unless doing a cut. I really think this is an important video! I fell into the trap of eating all the wonderful pre packaged keto snacks and treats AND using the recipes I see on KZitem for delicious meals. It's all wonderful BUT, I slowly started to gain weight, I wasn't weighing myself often so it just slowly crept on, and then...carb creep. I am so frustrated with myself, and embarrassed, because I just ignored all the signs. Now, I am on a strict Keto and calorie monitoring cut. I appreciate the honest KZitemrs that are saying 🚩🚩🚩 🛑, you probably can't eat all that and have this work long term. I agree with the comments that what works for males may not work for females. Yes.

I have a wonderful dietitian and the first thing she told me not to eat was dairy. Her reasoning is based on how they raise the cows, what they feed them and doctor them with, and the fact dairy is made for baby cows to gain weight. I am not perfect and still occasionally eat cheese on a burger, or I have dairy with coffee at church. But on the whole I’ve seriously limited it. And I think it has helped me lose weight

Thanks! I totally get what you're saying. My fiancé and I are on the keto diet to shed some pounds, and I noticed that whenever I go overboard with cheese and heavy cream, the scale goes in the wrong direction (sometimes up to a pound!). I used to think that I could eat all the cheese and cream I wanted since they're keto-friendly, but I realized that too much extra fat was derailing my progress. I've since cut back on the cheese and heavy cream, and it's made a big difference. It's true that cheese, heavy cream, and sour cream are keto, but it really depends on the person and how many calories you need. My fiancé can eat the same amount of heavy cream and still lose weight, but for me, it's a no-go. So, we've learned that we need to figure out what keto approach works best for us individually. It's not about having an unlimited supply of cheese and fat; there's definitely a limit to it.

Mmmm, I love heavy cream...but I don't use much. And I don't know if you have tried raw milk cheese, but that stuff is awesome. And Kalona milk products are AMAZING. The low temp pasteurization and no homogenizing leaves it so much more naturally intact. I had a hard time with milk products, then I found Kalona. I love ALL the Kalona stuff - I only wish their plain yogurt was thicker. I have the same issue with chocolate chips that use sugar alcohols and stevia. I tried some that use dates for sweetener, and they are pricey but I need so few to feel satisfied that it's totally worth it. Plus they use real cocoa beans and not just cocoa liquor, which is a way better taste. I'm shocked at how many of the "healthier" chocolate chips are made from chocolate liquor. Most of them taste gross.

I think most of these are pretty common sense ideas, especially the keto products from the store as most of them are not really as 'keto friendly' as they advertise. I do always keep homemade keto sweet treats in my freezer at home so that I'm not tempted when shopping or in restaurants and, while I'm sure that they're not great for reducing cravings or weight, it works as a tool for staying on track for me.

Breakfast: I drink equate Carmel protein shakes along with coffee and a shot of espresso in the morning Lunch: sausage, ham, bacon, spinach and cheese egg cooked in a muffin pan. Dinner: chicken with asparagus or broccoli. If anyone has any other advice for me I’d appreciate it.

The problem I found with "Keto" bread products is that almost all of them contain "modified wheat gluten," which is still gluten. The also all contain "cellulose fiber," basically sawdust.

You look slimmer! Your skin looks great! I agree with your advice. I mainly eat meat, fruit, occasionally veggies (like you, some digestive issues w some veggies) nuts, eggs, hard Parmesan cheese, sometimes blue cheese, coconut oil, EVOO. I cook 98% of my meals from fresh foods. Every once in a while, I may eat the Real Good frozen chicken nuggets, but only if I’m extremely tired. I still occasionally enjoy LC wraps, bbq pork rinds or Milton’s crackers but not that often anymore. I’ve also cut back significantly with drinking my zero sugar flavored water or zero cokes. I may have 1 a week, if that, just to fulfill that craving.

Most people have intolerance not for milk but for milk's sugar , lactose. Aged cheeses are a good option, since the aging process is about good bacteria feeding themselves out of the lactose.

Some of the things you mentioned like dairy and broccoli are foods that seem to bother people the older they get, so it's not necessarily "keto" related digestive upset.
@KetoFocus

Yeah, it’s not keto related at all but just keto foods that I can’t have or can only tolerate in certain small amounts. I just wanted people to be aware that there are keto approved foods that can still cause inflammation in some people. 😀

I deeply enjoy my rare goodies and rised my life quality since I scipped artifical sweetners. I finally turned into a coffe gourmet and celebrate it like a cake....because without milk and sweetner a low quality coffe is really disgusting. I feel like a balloon, when I eat artificial sweetner and also found, that my desire for more sweet flavor grows. I get along with small amounts of erythrit and get used to the natural taste of things. When I use somebody elses sweet keto recipes, I use way less sugar substitue, because my tounge is not used to such sweet taste anymore. Thanks so much for your information. I'm sure there are a lot of people wondering why they feel bad by trying to eat healthier.

I like the No Sugar Company for a packaged treat when I feel I need something sweet. But after almost 2 years on a Keto/low cable lifestyle I don’t feel the need to snack or crave sweets like I use to on the SAD diet. When I do snack I like a beef stick, handful of nuts or when I want something salty and crunchy the 4505 Chicharrones pork rinds. But all snacks are in moderation. I’ve learned to read labels on everything ( it takes a while to go shopping..lol) but I am more aware of what I am putting in my body . My goal is to be healthy and fit as I age. Good luck to everybody on this Keto/low carb journey. 😊

Eat clean and whole. It's always the best way. I've been eating what was a modified keto/bro diet and watching calories for over 30 years, before I even knew what such a thing was. It's just what we did to stay in competitive shape. I found as I got older, it also makes a great diet to keep me physically and mentally focused. I don't touch any of that fake processed keto or sugar free stuff, mostly because I find it doesn't taste very good and they increase bad cravings. I give myself one cheat meal a week and I will have literally anything I want from pasta to potatoes, rice, sweets, whatever. The rest of the time, it's strict protein/fat and veggies. I don't even do the intermittent fasting. I learned long ago riding busses around the country that going hungry makes me feel like crap and actually increases the risk of making bad choices. When I was starved to death and all that was around was a peanut butter and jelly sandwich or gas station junk, I was going to eat that junk.
