@Plus Minus That is why I just keep it to myself. I used to eat rice and always wondered why I was always hungry. I told a former colleague of mine that many things we eat are empty calories. She lookee at me as if I were high. I started Keto in Nov 2018 and IF some time in 2019. I do IF now daily 20:4 and fast. I completed a 31-day water fast in Nov 28, 2019. Yesterday, I completed a 7-day water fast on 15 Jan 2020. It is very interesting. Funny thing is after the 31-day water fast. At times, the only craving I ever have is Cream of Rice. Interesting.

Thank you very much for the VDO. Again an excellent VDO! I would aso appreciate a comparison between Keto and IF with a "normal carb" whole foods diet. With "normal carb" I mean what is recommended by the regular/main health authorities, i.e. the five groups of food: - Vegetables and legumes/beans - Fruit - Grain (cereal) foods, mostly wholegrain and/or high cereal fibre varieties - Lean meats and poultry, fish, eggs, tofu, nuts and seeds and legumes/beans - Milk, yoghurt cheese and/or alternatives, mostly reduced fat Thank you!

I started the 20/4 last Tuesday and am just a novice but haven't counted the content of what I've been eating but have severely dropped the carbs, I'm now in the 47th hour of what I plan to be a 50 hour fast and have never felt better in all seriousness...the dog walk at 25 hrs yesterday started with a bit of "wooziness" but that cleared and I haven't had one hunger pang since that point. A pint of water with ACV and a half lemon juice each day and lots of decaff green tea. I feel I could go another day but better not overdo this... when I break the fast it's on to full Keto diet....What a revelation this has been- thanks Dr Ekberg!!!

I have been doing Keto for about three months and lost 38 lbs. Hunger was well controlled and have done several 72 hours fasts for the Autophagy benefits.I have recently switched to Low Carb and Hi Protein as I found I was really losing muscle mass and had to get it back up. The down side is that I am getting aggressively hungry even though I am Low Carb. The weight loss has stopped but I am feeling better. I am sometimes burning in excess of 4400 cal/day on the days that I am at the gym and can only see this as my body wanting more energy intake.

Protein and fats are going to be the key macronutrients for my upcoming diet change in order to rebuild my muscle mass. Ex. meat portion = palm of one's hand. Any easy measure of fat...butter (?) olive oil (?). I'm healthy senior, & no need to measure blood glucose or insulin. Will appreciate any advice. Just between us---USA's gift to the world---Burger shake & fries...another one bites the dust. Seriously, "cut out bread, & potatoes" but is rice ok? yes, the whiter the bread, the sooner you're dead.----another folk saying.

My wife says she does keto, but then her blood sugar goes too low and she feels like she's going to die. She then eats some ' emergency ' carbs, but then she has to inject some insulin. I know she has no will power but strangely enough I sometimes feel dizzy and like I'm going to die and eating helps me. I don't eat carbs and I'm pretty sure I'm not going to die from that, but what causes this ? It lasts from 1 to a few hours and I literally feel so weak I can't hold my head up.

I have been on keto and IF for 15 months & I have tried OMAD for many months as well as several longer fasts. The longest I did was 8.5 days, once I did a 5-day one, & 3 times I did 3-day ones, and it seems like I cannot go beyond 3 days any more because I am too thin. I just did a 3.5 day one and I lost 7 pounds. So I stopped because my weight went down to 109 pounds. And my vision got blurry and I was having restless leg syndrome. I am obviously not over weight but I am insulin resistant and I am trying very hard to reverse it but I cannot do long fasts any more so I normally eat just two keto meals a day and once in a while I will go to OMAD after I have cheated at a special occasion like a bday party or a holiday where I treat myself to a sugary dessert. I just finished reading Dr Fung’s The Complete Guide to Fasting. I highly recommend it. Very informative!

The slight increase was attributed to stress at the time of the second test..I am a bit frustrated that I am not seeing better results even though I have been on a very strict LCHF diet for 15 months. Before industrialised agriculture, when fruits and other carbs would only be available during summer, it would make sense that the body process and store some of the surplus calories for harder times (i.e. winter). It is NOT however natural to eat high amounts of carbs all year round, and especially refined carbohydrates are closer to poison than food. So our bodies are definitely built to handle carbs, just not the way we eat them today.

For those who are new to fasting, let me clarify one important point. Before you begin your first fast, it is wise to become FAT ADAPTED. Teach your body how to burn fat by MASTERING the ketogenic diet. If you are overweight, you probably have a lot of insulin in your blood, which PREVENTS you from burning your fat. You have to cut your carbs to 50 grams or less. No baked goods, grains, starches, or fruits. But you can eat meat, vegetables, and fats to fullness. At the beginning, eat breakfast, lunch, and dinner, but no snacks. Finish eating by 6 PM. Then follow the procedure Dr. Ekberg describes of narrowing your eating window day by day and eventually fasting for longer and longer periods. When you do eat, prioritize protein. It is filling, and is the only macronutrient you need during weight loss. Finally, and most IMPORTANTLY, replenish your ELECTROLYTES. To make your own electrolyte drink, add 1 teaspoon of potassium No Salt, 1 teaspoon of baking soda, and ½ teaspoon of sea salt to two liters of water, and drink that throughout the days when you fast. If you get a HEADACHE or feel WEAK while fasting, drink your ELECTROLYTE beverage. I speak from personal experience, and hope this tip makes you successful in fasting for weight loss.

@@videogazer801 the first 10 pounds yes, probably probably all water. I do not believe I have lost any muscle. Have you ever done or tried keto or carnivore? When your body consumes zero carbohydrates or nearly 0 the weight just melts off

@@Dirty__Dan I’ve only done keto combined with fasting 18:6 and OMAD. Tried Paleo with fasting as well, and both lost weight rapidly. But it was all water weight for the first few weeks, because I’ve done it for only that short before just to see of the all weight came right back and it did. It’s when I stick with it for three months or more did I see true fat loss.

I tried keto, IF and keto + IF. I found that FOR ME, IF by itself works best. Listen to your body. Do what works for you. Nothing is a blanket rule for everyone. I know someone who lost weight and got off his diabetes medicine even though he ate 300 grams of carbs a day, most of which was fast food. But he ate less calories and worked out a bit

Dear Dr. Ekberg, In terms of your considerstions about how much fasting is good on high physical activity this might be interesting: I'm working as a piano mover (and moving means that I am carrying up to ten of these things across 15-20 floors each day!). After beeing a carb junkie my wohle life (of course, when I was a kid, I've been told to become one) spontaneously I did a two-week-fasting after a tooth surgery 15 years ago. Unfortunately I lost a lot of muscles back then, because I completely crashed my body down from 100 to zero, but nevertheless it changed my life: Not only did I stop smoking for the fasting period, but stayed a non-smoker afterwards. Since then I switched my training from only lifting heavy weights to running/stretching/functional Fitness and HIIT. Also did I change my nutritional habits (less junk & more whole food, less alcohol and so on). About two years ago I started with intermittent fasting and carb reduction. After seeing some of your videos I felt encouraged to do a longer fasting again, but this time I was prepared much better: For 6 weeks I abstained from alcohol & sugar, I expanded my fasting periods from 16:8 to 18, sometimes even 20 hours and I reduced carbs even a little more (although still beeing far away from a ketogenic diet). Then I went through 3 discharging days where I only ate very little and absolutely no carbs. After that started with the actual fasting where I only drank water for 5 days. I'd been quite afraid of my work shifts before, but although I had some really tough days with exhausting piano transports I did really well and felt strong throughout the whole fasting. On the weekend (I did my fasting from thursday to monday) I even went for two shorter hikes of 10-15 Kilometers each. Since then I decided not to eat any more throughout working and I'm doing much better with it, quite the contrary I'm even feeling stronger now! So, from my point of view, fasting is absolutely no problem on a physically active lifestyle (of course, you've to get adapted to it slowly!).

Hi Doctor Ekberg. I am a diabetic. The metformin gave me diarhea so I stopped taking it. Dr here put me on insulin. Gained 7 lbs in a month. So I stopped taking it and I noticed my blood sugar did not go down while taking it but I gained weight. All my other blood chemistry’s are normal . Can I do the intermittent fasting and keto .?

3 weeks ago I found out I had lung cancer. I was coughing up lots of blood. They told me it wouldnt stop till at least a week of radiation. I started keto and fasting and got the bleeding to stop my self. Original ct mass was 4.1x3.4cm 2nd 3.4x3.4cm. And my pet scan was 2.8x2.9cm. All prior to starting treatment. They said it could just be different angles but I firmly believe its had to have had a positive effect. O and I'm on my 4th straight day of chemo and radiation and I feel really good. They told me I needed out of keto so I didnt lose weight. I ate carbs day one bleeding was back within an hour. 36hr fast bleeding is gone and mood and energy are back. LISTEN TO YOUR BODY!!!!!!

Hi Dr. Eckberg! I was diagnosed with type 2 more than 25 years ago and struggled with the recommended treatments with no success and as a result I was labeled a Non compliant patient. That title did more to make me rebel from the treatments than anything else. All of that got me painful neuropathy, heart failure and problems with my eyes. Fast forward to last September, I finally discovered doctors Boz, Berry and Fung and finally made the decision to turn my health around. I started a relatively strict Keto diet along with IF. I stopped taking any insulin and victoza. I soon got to where i was mostly OMAD and soon started losing weight. I have gone from a BMI of 29 to now less than 24. My last A1c was 6.6 from higher than 7. I've been listening your videos lately and am getting such good information to keep me going in my journey! Thanks for all that you are doing!

Hi Dr Ekberg. Thank you so much for your info! You are helping so many. I have been LCHF for 10 mos, strict keto for 4 mos. Last morning reading was glucose 82, blood keton 1.5. I've done only a couple of 23:1 IF's. I do not have weight to lose. My question: what do you recommend as far as diet/IF regarding chronic illness, bacterial and viral infections (namely lyme disease).

Some conditions are a little more complicated and require very specific analysis of the body. In my office we use Nutrition Response Testing to find and handle the root cause of the problem. 😀

Dr. Ekberg; Thanks so much for all your wise (sage) information. I'm 63 years old and was growing a ''tire'' around my waist. I had already started Keto before I discovered your KZitem video. Not only do you make it easy to understand all those technical terms but you also offer really good advise. Like you, I had done the Vegan experience and the Raw food experience but found that long term, it's challenging! I'm now eating one meal a day but I find it hard to eat it all in one sitting. I've started eating my one meal per day during a period of 2 to 2.5 hrs (4:30 to 6:30) and that seems to work well for me for the time being. Also tweeting my fat intake, I think I was overdoing it with the heavy cream, so I reduced it by a lot. My cholesterol is higher, my doctor wants to put me on cholesterol pill but my holistic doctor is on board with Keto and is monitoring the situation. Thank you again!

I’ve been combining: Keto diet (daily) + 4/20 intermittent fasting (daily)+ the Total Gym (5x/week) + Hot Power Yoga (1x per week). Feeling lighter, sleep better, more regularity in the GI area, and barely have an appetite (which kind of freaks me out, tbh...). Fasting and giving up most carbs has completely changed my relationship with food. I’m 50 and have always been fairly trim and active, but I have had lifelong depression and food anxiety that often bordered on an eating disorder, but I find that this really works for me and is a much healthier way of eating now that my metabolism is slowing down.

i enjoyed you video greatly. you said if you do keto and if and don't get results to regroup. I did keto 1.5 yrs and carnivore 6 months and only lost 20 lbs. So how can i regroup and find out what is wrong. I had lyme disease that did a lot of damage, leaky gut, have hashimotos and global tendinitis. I can't exercise much because my muscles try to rupture for the effects of fluoroquinolones. I gave up and now am considered diabetic. I want to lose 80 lbs. And also recently my stomach hurts a lot if I try to fast 18hrs. So if it were you, what would you have your doctor look for or what advice can you give me to get me back into keto and IF and loosing some weight. I am 67
