Hollywood legend Kevin Costner returns in The Highwaymen, a gritty Netflix original that tells the true story of the hunt for Bonnie and Clyde.
The outlaws made headlines. The lawmen made history.
Ahead of the film’s release, JOE chatted with the Oscar-winning director about his career, the importance to tell Frank Hamer’s story correctly, and the his plans to make a biopic of Michael Collins.
To many people, Collins was a hero of the Irish Revolution that defied the British Empire. It remains Costner's passion project and during the early '90s, Costner even lived in Ireland to research the film.
The director of Dances with Wolves even said that the film was epic in scale and compared it to Lawrence of Arabia.
As for The Highwaymen, the film follows the untold true story of the legendary detectives who brought down Bonnie and Clyde.
When the full force of the FBI and the latest forensic technology aren’t enough to capture the nation’s most notorious criminals, two former Texas Rangers (Kevin Costner and Woody Harrelson) must rely on their gut instincts and old school skills to get the job done.
With such a beloved film career, JOE wanted to get Kevin Costner’s feelings about his status as a legend, why The Highwaymen matters, and the big decisions that defined Costner’s career.
