I love Kevin my mum came over to visit from Ireland I'd been living in Oz for about 20 years and one night I got out a cd of Kevin's and said to her wait to you hear this, next thing she said was I've heard that song many times before it was a big hit in Ireland. RIP mum miss you.

Thank you, Kevin Johnson and may God bless you and everyone you love. For your beautiful songs. And for the time you took some years ago, at Tweed Heads club, to make my boys feel special for a while. And their dad feel so, until the day he dies.

Us young adults of the seventies were indeed privileged to have lived in the era when God gave us three men of equal talent to Paterson and Lawson as poets, and with no peer in the arena of music; Doug Ashdown, Mike McLellan and the incomparable Kevn Johnson. I have heard all three of these wonderful musicians in concert; twice with the three of them on the same bill, playing as 'JAM' and I can say it was a truly unforgettable experience.

This brings back interesting memories for me. I had my appendix taken out back in 1980 and Kevin Johnsons son (I think it was Shaney, though it may have been Scotty) also had his appendix taken out. We were in the same hospital room in Cork, Ireland. He must have been on tour at the time. Kevin came in to play a few songs for all the kids on the ward. It was amazing. Ever since then the song has had a special place in my heart. Thanks for posting this.

An Irish mother used to sing this to her son Shane, she died in her 40s from cancer, and her son emigrated to Australia. As far as I know he's still there.

I am and have been for donkey years a fan of Kevin Johnson. The first few times I started to listen to this song it touched me so much that I dreaded to hear the end, fearing "Shaney Boy" had an accident or a terrible illness. Then one brave day, I listened to the end. Your absence Kevin is regrettable The last time I managed to buy an album of yours it came from Sweden or thereabouts and took months to arrive. It was not the album I wanted but it was one of yours. I would love to see your "Rock and Roll, I gave you the Best Years of my Life" , as a movie. with the movie used as a carriage for many of your great songs. The story would be a show case of songs during the hey day of music for people my age.

Not sure why perhaps KJ stepped on toes or wouldn't be what someone else wanted him to be but I consider he is one of the premier singer song writers in Australia and strangely he didn't get all the accolades due to him.
