This is a video about ep 97 Kevin Nash on how WWE Superstars get paid 0:00 ep 97 Kevin Nash on how WWE Superstars get paid 00:00 Details On How WWE Superstars Get Paid
The 90 day pay delay for the Royal Rumble may have been a result of waiting for the cable/satellite companies to pay the promotion. Pretty sure Cornette and Bischoff have separately talked about it on their respective podcasts.

They could still have paid up front and gotten it all back when that money was paid out. Then again, Vince was always crass over class.

Yes this was largely the reason for the time delay for PPV checks. In this time period you didn’t just have your card charged right away when you ordered a PPV. You ordered the show, the cable company added it to your next bill, and then you paid your bill. And then of course the media company would then relay the WWE share of that revenue once it’s been received. I’m sure there could’ve been shady shit anyways but it’s widely acknowledged everywhere about the delay in the company actually receiving the funds from their event. The delays to actually receive the revenue is why Jeff Jarrett pushed to be paid the rest of what the WWF owed him before he left the company because the share one would receive was discretionary and he knew that if he just trusted them to do him right when he was gone that they could easily cut him short on his share and he wouldn’t have much of an option to press and receive more if he felt he was underpaid. If there was a huge delay in today’s time then it’s a lock there’s something shady going on considering that so many PPVs are paid right away with your card now.

What Maven said was that he had the choice between electing the downside guarantee (he started at 50k per year downside) -- OR-- to get paid based on the houses ....obviously, the latter option paid him more -- so he only took the downside guarantee when he was injured (and not performing at the house shows and PPV's).

I'm convinced that most of the wrestlers were exploitet by Vince. I mean look at Vince, he made billions out of the wrestlers. I would bet that he didnt give the Undertaker not even 10 % of what he made out of him and the same for guys like Test, or Maven.

AEW is paying high six figure salaries to everybody in their roster and half of them never even have to show up to work because they have no use for them. Wrestlers in the top American leagues are living their best life these days. High six figures for working 1-2 days a week at most? Pretty damn sweet compared to most other professional athletes.

WWE guys typically work 3 days a week now. They do the TV they’re on plus a couple of house shows. Then there’s the PPV. So once a month they might work 4 days a week.

I saw maven's actual interviews about how he got paid, and "downside guarantee" was definitely something he said. He interviewed some newer guys (have no idea who they were) who talked about how they got paid (I think around 2023) and they had some sort of hybrid thing they were talking about where merch and everything was included in the downside UNLESS it was so high that it blew it out... or something.

Watched it it was pay sheets or down side if you chose pay sheets you got a percent of the house the downside was if you went down or if you chose it.

The gate pay system from the stories reading from was the wrestler explaining to Maven how the downside system works today but really poorly to make it seem different than it actually is. What he was saying, but quite poorly, is that he was paid weekly at the amount of his downside guarantee. And then was explaining that they recorded a rate for everything he gets paid on during the year to determine how much he’s earned and it’s balanced against his downside and then the normal practice happens where they pay him the remainder of what is owed that exceeds the downside. The only difference seemingly is that people aren’t paid nightly based on the gate but that the normal practice now is that they just pay people the downside and it’s now pretty uncommon for people to out earn their downside by any material amount. The wrestler explaining it to Maven was pointing out that whenever they get close to exceeding their downside the company would usually just send them home rather than pay them more. But at the same time it makes sense because the downside revenue sharing model based on what you sell doesn’t fit like it did before when the big items to share revenue on like PPV and merch are now licensed for a flat fee. So the prior model where wrestlers aimed to smash their downside by sharing as revenue parter in a win-win business structure where both sides make more when the wrestler sells more since those items simply have a flat fee now. So while the downside still exists in a sense with the WWE realistically it’s just a guarantee model with the change in their business model.
