I’m 63 and vegan for 8 years. I was a caregiver for my elderly parents and my grandmother for 17 years. None were overweight. But they all ate the Standard American Diet full of animal products which clogged their arteries (arteriosclerosis). They all had high blood pressure from about age 40 and took medication for it for about 40+ years. My father had leg bypass surgery in his early 60s and suffered 8 strokes in his 70s before passing from a massive stroke at age 78. My mother suffered from congestive heart failure and passed at age 80. My grandmother suffered TIAs (mini-strokes) and passed at age 92. Their doctors told them arteriosclerosis was hereditary and only advised them to eat a banana daily for potassium and to limit salt in terms of changing their diet. I decided I did not want what happened to my family to happen to me. Presently, I eat a mainly fruitarian/raw vegan diet. I take no meducations. Many people want to eat all kinds of burgers, steaks, cheese, chicken, fish, etc. They think that as long as they are not overweight everything is ok. They are mistaken. The buildup of animal fats and proteins and toxins in the arteries is unseen but working against people over decades until a cardiac event or some other health crisis happens.

Over the past 2 weeks I've had 2 co-workers in their 40's die suddenly of heart attacks. One over weight and the other average weight. Very sad

My belief is if we watch what we eat, detox etc. I heard a friend say, heart attacks run in their family, I said NO, people need to change the way they eat. Those power drinks are not good, especially drinking back to back, SUGARSUGAR in that and caffeine. We can be fit, but not healthy on the INSIDE.

Thanks Doc great video! Let this be a reminder to get regular checkups with your doctor, keep a healthy weight, blood pressure, reduce cholesterol, try your best to reduce stress and be healthy as best as you can. I think he was 52 or 53 years old he would mention in on his shows a few times. His friend in an interview said he worked a lot on many different projects alone besides youtube and slept 2-3 hours a night most nights. Health is wealth!

as a very young man, the fact he was 53-57 doesn't strike me that hard as being way too young to have a heart problem which results in death. Hearing you explain how he was very young to die this way is shocking to me.

To his credit, he always recommended a plant-based diet to people needing to lose weight. Sadly, he didn’t follow that himself. He would boast about fine steak dinners at upscale restaurants. And the multiple (at least 3 a show, I’d say) Red Bulls definitely didn’t help.

Dr. Montgomery I would like to know how critical of a role does stress play in his sudden death and others who died in this way. I watched a few of his shows and found the conversation to be a bit stressful and if this was also a factor.

In another interview, he discussed having cancer in his early 20's and going thru chemo. Wonder if he did follow up care? Some types of chemotherapy (primarily in a class of drugs called anthracyclines) weaken the heart muscle from a buildup of calcium and other chemical reactions in the body that release harmful free radicals. Thus, chemotherapy side effects include cardiomyopathy (an enlargement) or congestive heart failure. However, chemotherapy does not increase the risk of heart attack, Storozynsky said, because chemotherapy usually does not impact blood flow to the arteries. Did he know he needed to do follow up cardiovascular care after chemotherapy? Or did he presume he was healthy because he was thin? Sad.

The main underlying issue is that he was in metabolic and biochemical imbalance. He likely had increased inflammation and oxidative stress which underlies all chronic illnesses. The prior cancer and subsequent chemotherapy were simply manifestations of underlying inflammation and oxidative stress. Also, an occult cancer recurrence and associated pulmonary embolism is another possibility.

I have seen some of his videos. He didn't treat women badly, he matched their energy more than anything to rebalance them into reality. He seemed to have genetics against him and the red bull didn't help either.

No one food will improve heart health. Instead, the whole diet must be changed to a whole food plant-based diet of primarily raw food. As a part of that diet, avocado in moderation is acceptable.
