The two-stroke Japanese road bikes of the 70s were absolutely wonderful. I had a Yamaha RD350, which I loved like a girlfriend. God, I wish I kept it. I'd do just about anything to get one from this era today. Very hard to find. Not hard to understand why.

I have always loved the Suzuki triples from the 70's and this one looks immaculate. I bought an old wreck from a dealer in 1983 for £100. OK, it was a bit tatty, but had two good tyres on it, and it still ran. I set about re-painting it, put a new seat cover on and gave it a general tidy up. I had it looking pretty decent. It needed new head gaskets, and new centre stand, because the foot lever had broken off. Oh, and these old bikes s often had plastic lens covers on the speedo and tacho, and they tend to fog up with time. I overcame this problem by gently with a soft cloth putting T-Cut on them, rubbing in a gentle circular motion, then applying liquid wax, between applications and buffing them up. Eventually, this removes the surface misting and leaves them looking almost as good as new.

Yep, I loved mine as well ORO 604P Until the spring broke on the side stand, leaning in for a left bend it dropped, dug into the tarmac and flipped me into a hedge. The bike hit a wall and was written off with a twisted fork & frames. I broke my back here but was lucky enough to make a full recovery from this one. Eighteen months later I wasn't so lucky.

Beautiful bike. I had a green one. It would be more authentic with a yellow number plate. No one would ever have had an old fashioned black and silver plate on one.

I had a black one of these. I had also changed the front brakes to dual. Took it to Santa Pod. Entered the bring any old thing race. Full of modified GS550's that made loads of noise with their go faster add on crap. I was the fastest 550 on the day. I had my choke on at the start, because the queue was so long. I did 93 mph in 14.3 seconds. That is crap today, but most vehicles of the day would even find the motorway speed limit a bit of a challenge.
