Ha, you ate a rock licker! Two of my favorite beaches. I was at Kewaunee yesterday and found some glass and a few nice fossils. It was too hot to make it to Crescent. Always find some treasure on those adventures.

Nice finds on the glass ! I was just reading in the paper tonight that 5 of 16 lakes here in our county in Indiana have high levels of blue-green algae also known as Cyanobacteria. That’s the stuff stromatolites are made of. Maybe we’ve got some future rocks in the making ! Ha Ha the 5 lake aren’t even close to each other and they’re trying to figure out what’s going on.

There have been massive blue-green algae blooms up here this summer which is to be expected, but I've heard/seen myself that Lake Winnebago and some of the smaller lakes that attach to it are Way beyond toxic even right now. Up here it's due to fertilizer in people's lawns & properties as well as farm field runoff from liquid cow manure which they spray a couple of times a year and they're doing right now everywhere alfalfa crop is finished and wheat I've noticed. A few years ago some of that leaked into Lake Michigan and it was discovered someone that owned a dairy farm illegally dumped the manure but somehow they got away with that in court and it just got dismissed! Well, that caused the worst algae bloom I've ever witnessed and other people I talked to said it hadn't been that bad for over 30 years. The smell from the algae bloom was unbearable. This year natural things happened in Lake Michigan due to heat and whatnot so there really hasn't been any "dead body decay" odor or 3' thick mats of algae similar to a few years ago. This year there were a lot of people swimming out at the big lake compared to then that is for sure! I've always been a good Steward of the environment and I've raised my sons to do the same but there definitely has to be some changes and laws enacted at the federal level + made sooner rather than later as far as preserving our waterways!
