This coastal nature reserve located in Khor Kalba on the southern outskirts of Kalba in Sharjah is considered home to the oldest mangroves in the country and a wildlife sanctuary to rare bird species, sea turtles, and mammals.
Ten years after being closed to the public, Khor Kalba Mangrove Centre has made it possible for visitors to visit the mangroves once again. The area is still restricted and you can only go within the centre area.
Inside the centre you can see crabs, sea cucumbers, starfish, various crustaceans, sea urchins and more.
Outside, there are turtle pools with a few turtles. They are not kept in captivity, but are checked and released back.
Apart from the mangrove trail, there is an aviary and a kingfisher aviary and hides to watch birds. On the mangrove trail, look out for kingfisher nests in holes in the trees. Some of the mangroves are more than 300 years old! #khorkalba #kalbamangroves
