Not sure you are still active on here. But I figured what the heck. You seem very knowledgeable so I’ll ask anyways. I’m having troubling finding good information on if the Stinger tuned will run a better time in Driver and letting the computer shift or to do it manually yourself?..Then if it is yourself is each gear a different shift point? I seem to get a touch better pulls when I shift myself. I know you would know so wanted to ask you. Just so many different opinions out there. Thanks in advance for your time!

I will give you my honest opinion. The fastest time I got was on Drive. The key to getting your best time is all in the take off for 1/4 mile time. Note this takes a lot of practice. Before I owned the Stinger I owned a Lexus IS 300 Turbo that I use to do 1/4 mile and autocross all the time. That is how I got into driving cars fast and how I got all my experience. My dad was a mechanic and he was into building cars and racing them. That how I got involved at a young age. I been doing that since I was like 18 and I am 31 now. The reality is that if you are not an experience driver you are better off letting the car shift for you. You will never shift faster than the ECU. People in the internet will say otherwise but they probably have no actual experience racing in actual tournaments. If the car is tuned properly your take off on drive and all you focus can go to taking off. The key to improving your time is reaction time and traction. Taking off at the right RPM is critical to a 1/4 mile time. I don’t know how serious you are about your time, since I was pretty hardcore and I drove my Stinger to its limits. Most Stinger owners I ran into were not actually serious about pushing the car and were more concerned about warranty etc …… That was most people in the Stinger forum lol. If you are doing autocross then by all means you are better off shifting your self because you want to have full control especially on turns to be able to be at the right gear at all times. In a straight line that is not as important. My recommendation is to start by getting some light weight rims and sticky tires. Don’t cheap out on the tires. You want to get some actual lot thread tires and strictly for for the track. This is key. After that not sure what tune you are running. Remove the spare tire and all junk form the car. Practice your take off, make sure to take off traction control, ect off and put the car on sport mode. Get the BMS brake snip so can brake boost. This alone will drastically improve your time. If you are serious about it then you want to get a tcu tune. Just curious what mods, tune are running in your car? Are you AWD?

@@prvideos8229 That was an insanely detailed response. I appreciate it so much! A little back story- I use to 1/4 track cars as an early adult. Then had a family and now I’m 34 and could resist the itch anymore so why I bought a stinger. Still can be a practical daily but also more when wanted. I plan on keeping the car for a while as a daily and an occasional 1/4 mike car. Never a track. So far the performance mods I have are 1step colder plugs. Injen Intakes and the wonderful JB4. I have only owned the car for about a month. With the draggy I haven’t got any 1/4 In yet. Just a ton of 0-60. (Side note I live at 5,000ft) So the fastest 0-60 times I have got are in Manual mode. Shifting out of 1sr even earlier- but honestly could just be a coincidence. I have not went past map2. No brake snip but I have tried the parking brake launch twice. Again thanks for taking the time.

@@purrly8578 awesome those are great mods and those were about the same mods I had when I got an 11.6 time. You can use map 3 as a daily driver. Do not worry it won’t hurt your car since you already have colder spark plugs. I highly recommend you get a cold air intake if you don’t have one and get secondary downpipes. These mods will not take the reliability away nor will they give you less mpg. They also won’t void warranty. Remember anytime you have dealer visits remove the JB4. If you have a JB4 I would get the fuel wires and ewg wire if you don’t already have them. These are very simple mods that will make your car a lot faster for very cheap. Remember you won’t even notice these mods until you actually step on the gas. I also recommend when you go to the track put some E85 on your gas tank. Remember you are to mix in the E85 with 91 or 93 octane. You want to run E15. I beleive the right mixture is 4 1/2 gallons if 91/93 octane with 1 1/2 gallon of E85 is what I use to do. Try to have the gas tank close to empty. You don’t want to go on a full tank of gas to the track at least half way. That’s a lot extra weight you don’t need. I made some video on intake install and relatively easy with simple tools. The ark secondary downpipes are easy to install as well. Not sure how willing are you to tackle your own jobs, but they are fairly easy if you have some basic tools already. Don’t be scare to push the car when you go to the track. I was tracking the car every weekend in the summer and beating the hell out of it and never had issues. The car is very reliable. As long an you maintain the oil change properly and maintenance you will be fine. It’s an awesome vehicle. I recommend you don’t use the parking break method that is not good for your car or transmission. Do not use that method when taking off at the track. I have a video in my channel of doing the brake snip, it is very easy. It is just cutting one wire lol and connections to a on/off switch that you can buy for like 3 dollars at auto zone or Walmart. The BMS brake switch is a safe way to build boost without stressing your drivetrain. Doing the parking brake method stresses your drivetrain and the car ecu will prevent you from brake boosting. When you do the BMS brake switch you don’t any stress on the drivetrain and you are not fighting the ecu since that part is disabled. When brake boosting with the BMS brake switch do not launch over 500-600 rpm. Keep the rpm between 300-600 rpm when launching. If you have any questions let me know. I will gladly give you some advise.

@@prvideos8229 Thanks! I did forget to mention that I’m AWD. I do have the fuel wires (ones that tap the o2 sensors right?) but I do not have the EWG wires. So when you say cold air do you mean just and the Celia’s a tech air scoops to the current intake? I also think once I start pushing it I’ll put in two steps colder plugs- what do you think? Also do you only say secondary pipes and not primary? Okay can you help me understand why the brake snip is more safe? I thought they both allowed you to launch on boost and so that made them equally as stressful on the drive train etc? Also explain your exact launch again. I think I got confused. It’s nice to find someone so knowledgeable that is willing to share!
@prvideos8229

@@purrly8578 Get the ewg wires from BMS. Yes the fuel wires are the one that tap into the o2 sensor. You want an actual intake not the air scoops that you have. BMS or AEM sell intake for the stinger that are like $300. This will make a day and night difference especially in your car running cooler and getting more air. That is what you want. Very simple to install as well. I have a video on this as well on my channel. You want the secondary down pipes, not the primary. Khar tunerz sells the secondary down pipes made by a company ark. I would personally got the 2 step colder plugs from the beginning. I would get these asap. Gap them to .024-.026 this is the best gap from daily driving and occasional track use. The reason you don’t want to use the parking brake to launch is because you are stressing more components. When you use the parking brake it is engaged electronically in the stinger. You are putting a lot of stress on the caliper itself, braking system and rear end. The ecu is sensing this and it will try to kick in to prevent that from happening. So you are in a constant fight with the ecu. There is also more room for mistake and you to not let go of the e brake on time or hold it longer than you have too. It’s more risky and if take more skill. When you use the BMS brake snip not are not stressing the extra components when the parking brake is engaged. You also are not fighting the ecu because that is Biopased. Essentially all you press on the brake and slightly press on the gas. Once the you ready to take off let go of the brake and push the gas all the way down. It’s a lot easier and less room mess up. You are also not stressing as many components. As long as you don’t Launch over 500-600 rpm you will be fine. Remember the tackcometer has RPM in the thousands. So one 1 rpm is equal to 1000. You don’t want to go over 1 on the tack. Hope this makes sense.

koreanational thanks! Yes if you get a JB4 you can run map 1 or map 2 for daily with no issues. Just make sure run 93 octane and change for spark plugs to 1 step colder. Even if you don’t drag your car at a minimum you should gap the oem spark plugs, but to be honest for $60 bucks you might as well put some denso 1 step colder for safety insurance. BMS sells the plugs for cheap and you can bundle with the JB4.
