My diff went out in my 2018 Stinger Gt about two weeks ago at 80k miles sad I gotta get out the car now I don’t feel like it’s reliable anymore especially after reading some of these other stories now it really makes sense why they discontinued it. 😢

You gotta do your research, on the rear diff you have to replace the diff fluid with some like Amsoil severe gear with friction modifier. It's not the diff but the fluid. Should've got the g70 way more luxurious, and handles better, stinger is kinda sloppy without upgraded sway bars and springs. My wife sold Honda's when they had a huge oil dilution problem, new cars coming back, people saying Honda was trash. When you have a bad experience you have to look at the big picture. Plenty of people putting miles on the Stinger and G70, getting 700 whp on stock engine...the hatch does creek though on the stinger, glad I went the g70 route (didn't need rear space). Already changed my diff fluid it is a known fix in the forums, sounds like you had a bad dealer, disabled launch control? Lol that is wild.

Damn I was hesitant to purchase a Kia coming from my reliable Lexus. Thankfully my 2018 GT2 with AWD has endured so much even these harsh Canadian winters currently at 55k miles. I will say one thing, I avoid the KIA dealerships like the plague. We had a Kia VIP line we would call as stinger owners back then I don’t even know if that’s a thing anymore, but they were helpful.

Sorry to hear about your problems you have had to deal with. I too had issues with my GT2, but not anywhere near as serious as yours. Mostly it was fit and finish issues like the sunroof rattle and noise coming from the headliner. They ultimately replaced the rail system of the sunroof, which fixed that issue, and the headliner noise was gone for awhile, but did come back, but is significantly reduced (the issue is the adhesive that holds the liner to the frame -- and the warmer it gets outside, the more the adhesive loosens a bit, causing some noise during chassis flex). I did also have the issue with the brake pad deposits forming on the rotor which caused steering wheel shake similar to a warped rotor (but the rotor not being warped). They replaced the rotors and pads under warranty. Those issues have been quite annoying, and there was a delay during COVID with a Kia corporate tech coming out, but other than that they have at least been addressing the issues. I haven't had any mechanical issues with the car at all to this point after three and a half years of ownership. It does only have around 18,700 miles on it though. The car definitely doesn't have the same level of build quality as my previous Lexus IS 350 (although I will admit that my Lexus, despite me taking crazy good care of it and not beating the hell out of it, still had the transmission fail at around 83,000 miles (the transmissions in these cars should last quite a bit longer than that if taken care of properly)), but even with the issues I have had with my GT2, the car has been a blast to drive, is ridiculously practical as well, and, so far, has been reliable for me. And for the price I got it for, I still feel it was worth it. But I totally understand your position given your situation. It really sounds like you got a potential lemon, and should look into talking to corporate about that (typically you have to go in for the same issue at least three times).

Your comment makes me feel better about my own purchase of one this past October. But wow... 3 years and less than 19k miles. Thats amazing! Sp hopefully my dream car stays my dream car for a long while.

@@cedricscott6622 2019 GT2 here with 50k miles and no issues besides the well known brake pad deposits. This guy definitely got a lemon and had a shitty dealership to work with. Kia dealers are a hit or miss so I don’t blame him for thinking they’re all shit but my dealer is great…they even Uber me out and in so I don’t have to wait there for service. So don’t worry the Stingers (specifically the GTs) are solid cars for the money given that its direct competitors are more expensive (M440i and S5 Sportback).

Im no mechanic and did all the work myself, except install the wmi kit, by watching KZitem videos. I got it brand new with 204 miles on it and it currently have 67k on it and has only been to the dealership for the free oil changes. Sounds like you got a bad car and just got screwed by the dealership. I know its a Kia, but mine has been fun, reliable and a great conversation starter with people who don't believe it's a Kia. It sucks that you got a bad car and they didn't want to make it right for you because it's just as good as the poular name brands that cost 20k-40k more.

People talk about Hyundai and Kia warranties as being the best in the business. Anyone who knows Hyundai and Kia going back to the 1980s knows that the corporation is cheap AF when it comes to warranties. The Hyundai dealer in my area changed hands about a half dozen times because they couldn't manage to make money and keep technicians on staff - not when Hyundai only pays the dealer techs 2.5 hours labor to replace a head gasket on one of their $%^&boxes. The 100k mile warranty is only as good as the company that's standing behind it, which in Hyundai and Kia's case - isn't worth $%^&.

Yea man, AWD is a costly system to run. The Stinger is on a steel chassis so its hella heavy, which is why the differential works hard. Differential service is super important in cars like these, it's just the way performance works unfortunately. KIA dealers suck ass too which is why they have such an awful reputation. I'm sorry you had to go through all that. I think the stinger is a great platform. But it's issues like this and the sorry-ass customer service KIA prides itself on that got it discontinued.

@@mac3176 I disagree about your take on the forums. On the Stinger forum there are tons of people who post about issues they have had and ask for assistance in how best to resolve them. Also, if someone owns a Stinger and has issues with it, I don't think they are going to be gushing over how great it is. Sure, Kia doesn't have the same track record as Honda (or Toyota). In regard to Ford, at least recently I wouldn't say their track record is too good, as their reliability is below average, and in some rankings trails behind Kia. I can only speak about myself, but for me personally, I feel I am rather objective about being a Stinger owner. My last car was a Lexus, so I have that to compare it to. The Stinger, and Kia overall, definitely have their shortcomings, but for the price I paid for the car and what I have gotten out of it so far, overall, I feel it was worth it.

IMO they both put too much effort into making the cars look stylish and not enough effort into actual design and manufacturing. I have had issues with my 2019 GT2, but most have been fit and finish (the other being the brake pad compound issue, which isn't a mechanical issue). So far Kia has addressed them all and have been willing to fix and replace what was necessary under warranty. Haven't had to pay any money out of pocket for repairs or fight for them to address something. The main problem (and this is with a lot of brands) is that dealerships are independent, and unfortunately can vary WILDLY in service quality. When I had a Lexus I used to take it to a dealership service department on the East Coast that happened to be in one of the most affluent areas in the county, and they were phenomenal (which is what I expected, due to it being a Lexus, and also because of the area the dealership was in). I moved to the West Coast, and then took it to a dealership service department that also happened to be in another one of the most affluent areas in the country, and the service department used to be pretty good -- and then a few years later it went to complete and utter shit (I believe the dealership may have gone under new management) -- I almost ended up having to sue them over a mess-up with a service recall replacement. And they started doing shoddy work, and one time they totally saw no issue in giving me back my car with the shoddy work on full display, in addition to dirty/greasy fingerprints ALL OVER the interior headliner. With my Stinger, I have had experience using three different dealer service departments -- one was decent, one was absolute shit, and the third is pretty good overall (and the only one I currently go to).
