This is a James Bryan tune in the Key of D using double D tuning. He got it from an old minstrel tune book.
I was dared to try this tune by a member of our OT jam group. Even though Hiram Williams was long gone, the title was in keeping with his life style and eventual tragic death.
Hiram was a life long drinker, like his dad and brother. In February of 1976 he was living in Phelps, NY where he had found a small apartment above a barn on a dairy farm. One blustery night, while drunk, he decided to go to the outhouse, walked over the manure pond, fell through the ice and drowned.
He went missing until the pond thawed out and his remains were found. No one came to his funeral, not even his estranged family.
