Angel, do you know sbout leak-down tests? Basically a compression test in reverse. Instead of measuring the engine's ability to create pressure, compressed air is introduced into the cylinder through the spark plug hole. Where you hear air leaking out tells you everything you need to know: Noise from the top end indicates valves, below indicates rings, etc. Anyway, "Hillbilly brainsorm!" Hilarious!

Great job Angel. Just a side note though, in most engines, with the exception of some (very few) variable compression ratio engines, your compression ratio is a fixed value and never changes unless you change some components in the engine. You can’t really work it out from compression pressure results, at best you’ll only get an educated guess. There are too many variables that affect your compression pressures, such as worn rings, leaking valves or gaskets etc. which is what you’re really checking for when you do a compression test such as you have done here. The main thing to look for is even compression between cylinders, which yours seem to be fairly even. As for the actual pressure reading, I’d say yours are fairly normal for the type of engine you’re testing, i.e. your engine would appear to be in fairly reasonable condition. I hope that makes sense ❤

No, sorry my old Goldwing is sadly not a kick start but tuning and syncing four carbs is a lot of fun! This spring's compression testing went very well for me but nothing like yours after I replaced the timing belt. As for the envious people of your neighborhood? They were admiring a beautiful young lady with admirable mechanical skills. The men were wishing they had a woman like you to help them maintain their vehicles or just do it for their inept butts. As for the ladies they were wishing they looked half as good as you and were a third as competent at wrenching. Now, please do not ever put down what you do! Man, that was a great idea, I never would've thought of that! Luckily for me I have electric start in addition to the kicker, and that served me well a couple of weeks ago when I did mine and got 151 and 149. I also did a leak down test, the results of which were 98% and 97%. From what I can tell, that's VERY good, because apparently anything less than 5% leakage is race engine specs. Also, what kind of heads are those? Mine are S&S, but only single plug. My engine's only 93 inches, though, and the heads aren't shiny and polished like yours. Yours look like they're maybe STD or something. Good video, and love the outtakes!

Red, A couple of obvious comments...Doing that test at dusk is pretty damn dangerous...with no lights...people coming home from work, tired, not paying attention, maybe half in the bag...The world is a much cooler place with you in it. Just saying...My second thought comes from being a veteran of many attempts at starting a bike by rolling it down a hill. If it doesn't start, now you are at the bottom of a hill with a non running bike that you probably have to push back up the hill. That is when you really appreciate how heavy your bike is.

Well, I can't really disagree about it being a little (or pretty) dangerous in the dark. And the hill thing, I've definitely been there done that lol. However! This is a really long hill and its easy to build plenty of speed for a bomb start lol.

One thing to note about compression tests. Even if you get equal/close to equal readings, sometimes on four cycle engines a leak down test is the most accurate means of drawing a big picture in engine condition, possible issues. For the average person, a compression test is good enough.

You mentioned you didn't have a good way of lifting your bike. If you have an engine hoist and ratchet tie downs you can do about any thing. Lift the front to remove a front tire . Remove the seat and lift using the subframe to remove the rear tire. You will need to chock the wheel on the ground and use 2 ratchet straps to keep the bike from swaying. I had a Honda 1100 shadow. The local stealership wanted 7 hours labor to Remove the rear tire and drive shaft to change the fuel filter located at the back of the rear cylinder. I lifted the front way u p with the engine hoist and had the filter changed in 15 minutes. I currently have a triumph sprint nothing exhaust under the bike. So I lift the front. The rear I just use the center stand.

Thanks for this very informative video, I just wish I wasn't pnly 145 lbs. soakin wet, many times trying to jump start Shovelheads I've had they just skidded down the hill to a stop bc I guess they had too much compression for my lightweight ass to get em turnin over enough to ignite my cylinders!!!

Ох эти скандинавские женщины.. Do not burn your fingers, always use only normal gloves with closed fingers.. Judging by the pressure gauge readings, the compression ratio is good. If the readings were low, then it would be necessary to conduct a second test - pour some engine oil into the cylinders (If the indicators increase significantly, then there is wear on the piston rings. If the readings practically do not change, then you can pay attention to the tightness of the intake and exhaust valves. (Only it is better to carry out such a check in third gear).

@@RedRiderCanadaBCokay Angel maybe I'm just too old too understand the new verbiage these days, but please explain what was meant by "premier announcement". Does not every video need a title, if that is what the respondent is referring to and if so I thought your video was both informative for those who didn't know the easiest way of performing the task at hand and cute as usual the way you don't hide anything, sometimes struggle to get through it but always find a way to complete what you set out to accomplish and even make fun of yourself while doing so. Most men would be to arrogant to include that part or the goofing around that you do while making your videos, for instance...why am I talking this way doo-di-doo...shut up Angel...LOL, that's what makes your videos yours, you're having fun doing the mandatory doing a fantastic job at it I must say. I knew after stumbling across your channel shortly after you first started that both because of the content which was you attempting to Kickstart from coldstart showing the proper procedures and explaining why for each primer kick, finding TDC, and etc to finally turning on the ignition switch and then watching the walk around video showing all of the custom parts that you and the EOT had built for your bike being a 72 Shovelhead owner myself that I had to subscribe right then and have tried to watch every video since, gone into the library and watched everyone of them at least once, had numerous conversations with you about concerns with mine since they're both 96 CU/IN S&S Strokers. You're a very sincere younger woman that was raised with respect and that shines through in your personality and I don't think that there's one of us old timers that have been with you from the start that would have any problems standing up for you anywhere anytime. I know that I can get long winded but it's for a reason if this guys comment means what I think it does, and I could be wrong because of the verbiage, if you're not able too remove subscribers from your channel is there a way to block that subscribers notifications to your channel if he doesn't unclick the bell like he states? BTW, Those compression numbers looked great, well within the 10% cylinder variation for multiple cylinders without Competition Cams. If you were much higher than 150psi, I'm not too sure that you'd be enjoying or able to Kickstart it without installing a compression release system and you definitely don't want to do that on those brite and shiny cylinder heads. Are those double plug heads and are they S&S or a different manufacturer? I'm considering doing a refresh on mine this winter. Anyway keep the throttle twisted and the rubber side down! @@teddysickels1857 Hey Ted, thank you so much for support! I really appreciate all my loyal viewers like you 😊 So, what he means by "premier announcement clogging up his feed" is the fact that the premier was advertised before the the video is actually viewable, so you see the thumbnail in your feed before you can actually watch the video... I guess that's annoying to some people. But I've only done a couple premiers on my channel and have heard that they are good for getting traffic... I am not sure if that's true or not, but I wanted to give it a try and see for myself. Anyway, to answer your question about my heads: yes, they are dual plug heads, and they are S&S.
