I tried to go to a "white" barbershop between 2011 to 2015. I walked in. It was not busy, actually, no customers. Greeted the barbers. One barber directed me to his chair. I sat down and he asked me how can he help me. I let him know that my coworker "white", had a good high and tight and I would like the same type of cut. It was like silent and the guy told me that he doesn't know how to cut my type of hair. I share this because there was this cat named Cheeta. Cheeta was the neighborhood barber. Cheeta's wife was the neighborhood beautician. Cheeta had converted a closet in the den into a barber station. He was the fastest and best groomer in Waco, Tx. Any hair. I always thought...my naivety, if you are a barber, you would want to learn how to cut as many types of hair as possible. No matter the ethnicity. Melanated barbers that I've been to, can CUT, SHAPE, no matter the person. Good topic...carry on. Monje'

"MELANATED" 🤦🏿♂️😂🤣! Brother, Caucasians Have Melanin Also. I Crack Up Everyday To Keep From Snapping When I Hear The Latest Tag/Label/Rebrand Attempt Brought On By Social Engineering, Via Colonialism. "Ancient Indigenous Aboriginal South Side Black Indian, FBA, Magically Melanated, Paleo American, Copper Tribe, Black American,Hebrew Israelite" 🙄. I'm Certain I Forgot Some... Luckily! None Of The Aforementioned Are Real, None Are Ethnicities, None Are Remotely Accurate. The Need To Abstract Ourselves And Attach To Any And Everything With The Exception Of What We Are Is Colonization At Its Finest👌🏿😊.

I have a interesting theory about barbers especially Dominicanos(lol) versus non. Because of genetics we as 🇩🇴s have hair diversity. In other words a barber can basically ALL hair types 🤣.

Unfortunately the speed at which artists are able to release music through social media platforms has created a culture of remaining relevant through flooding the ears of listeners. In the late 80’s, an artist like Ice-T could drop “Power” and almost 2 years later drop “The Iceberg” and he didn’t lack quality as there was no drop off. Nowadays rappers claim they don’t write lyrics and are proud of such facts, yet now we’ve got rappers so fixated on the competition and rarely raise the bar. It’s a Xerox culture with nobody standing out like they once did where you had subsections of culture. Want gangster, turn your attention to Ice-T, NWA, Compton’s Most Wanted…Afrocentric/Knowledge would be X-Clan, ATCQ, Jungle Brothers and the female emcees didn’t all sound like 2 degrees of separation as you had MC Lyte, Latifah, Yo Yo, Roxanne Shante all dropping knowledge and not just their panties like the class of female rappers of today (There are solid rappers out there still like Rapsody doing her thing without looking like a stripper from a dive bar). Genuinely, I feel the audience doesn’t ask for much of their favourite artists so their ears are showered with shit. I think I’ll keep my ears on my Planet Asia, Tristate, Nas, Cormega, etc.

🤔To respond to "PLAY" : I agree, We can't BLEND /combine "boom bap" or late 80's to 90's rap with today's rap. Call it something else. Same thing older folks said about rap in the 80s and 90s. Where’s the musicianship? Where are the instruments? They’re just talking about nothing. They’re stealing old records, it’s not originals. And on and on and on. Every generation looks at the current and kinda puts them down because they’re not doing something the exact way they did it. Hip Hop like anything else should and will evolve.

@@friendswitdadealer 😳5 Elements of Hip Hop = MCee'n, Dee Jayin', Graffiti/ Tagin', Breaking & Poppin' and BeatBoxin'. So if u erase these elements (i.e. change the formula) then U GET A DIFFERENT GENRE of music not the same. And should stand on its own AS SOMETHING ELSE
@walterharris7421

HIP HOP first and foremost BEFORE THE ELEMENTS etc etc is the fact that it was derived from our culture here as Black Americans and otherwise, mainly the youth at and in those times. The beautiful and the ugly. It was born from the our experiences here and our lives and times. Take the name HIP HOP away and our Culture is still what it is and will always be. As far as today NO! it should NOT be called “something else” because this music like it or not is the pulse of these times. JUST LIKE THE HIP HOP BEFORE IT , this is the HIP HOP OF TODAY ! You don’t call your child “Something else” do you ? NO you call him a child to your title of elder. So stop trying to disown or separate the child from the parent just because said child doesn’t preform like the parent hoped the child would. Speaking of…… where do we often say the problems start ? Yeah that’s right, The PARENTS. That’s another topic you may want to stray away from if all we’re going to talk about are elements of expression in such a manualific way ……… yeah, I made that word up to articulate what I am trying to convey. All that mess they play ON THE RADIO sounds alike, because there’s a not so hard to notice agenda behind it. Rappers I listen to are just as unique now as they’ve ever been (Rome Streetz, Mach-Hommy, Tyler, Jcole). We gotta stop lumping that garbage they pump on the airwaves with real hip hop.
