I feel like this outlook that kids don't buy toys lends itself to this self-indulgent desire in the adult collector community to more so corner the toy/collectible market so that toy companies cater MORE to us. And that's the kind of subjective bias that I think should be called out more. I might agree that kids buy certain toys or are interested in them LESS than previous decades/generations, but that disparity is almost negligible at the end of the day. That doesn't mean kids aren't still objectively the main supportive market for all kinds of toys,. And lets be real, when we say toys what we're really talking about in this case is action figures & action figure accessories. Super 7 is an outlier that caters more so to adult collectors who were kids in the 80s by design. And that's great! There are options for adult collectors & there are options for kids. Action figures are just one type of toy though. So are Funko pops or even certain electronic games. There are so many types of toys... I just don't see the merit in the argument that suggests kids don't buy them. Unless... again, we're talking about a SPECIFIC TYPE of toy??? Like... action figures maybe lol? You know, one of the main toys that adult toy collectors (like Uncle Tim & so many of us)... COLLECT? This is why I call bs on this argument for the most part. It seems very biased & it easily conflates a few types of toys that obviously interest adult collectors with all toys. So yeah... kids definitely still buy toys... and parents have & will always be the the main conduit by which kids GET their toys. Why is this even a question lol?

Uncle Tim has a point tbh. majority of the kids today just want tech and video games. I live close to Frank & Son's collectible shows btw, kids I see all the time at the shows are literally not buying action figures. They buy funkos, prop swords, cards, and other collectibles. most of the booths at Frank's that sell action figures are filled with adults at least 20+ yr old. I'm 40 myself and I can totally see what Uncle Tim says. Kids 16 and under that looks at action figures usually has adults next to them that collects. Also when I see kids who are looking at toys at Target or Walmart they are mostly looking at hot wheels, dinosaurs, cheaper toys, and I honestly haven't see any kids that even looks at the higher priced action figures at all.

Uncle Tim's kinda got a point. I see so many parents these days who just throw in the towl and raise their kids with the internet. My 7 year old little cousin has toys, lots of them, too many of them in fact, but he never plays with them. He's too busy either on his Mom's phone, his ACTUAL phone, his Nintendo Switch, his Xbox or his brothers Xbox, and it's all tears and breaking stuff until he has his technological fix. It really is that bad these days, and when I was growing up in the mid to late 2000's, that's when all the kids around were talking about their cool games and consoles and this awesome stuff you can see on the internet with computers and shit like that. I never thought I'd say this, but I think I got lucky growing up in poverty, because every cent counted, and when the very rare times came, I could earn myself a cheap little $5-$10 Spider-Man toy. I didn't even know what video games were until I was 10 and didn't get my first game system until 2015, which was a 360. I applaud you for bringing your kid up to appreciate and like toys, but Tim really does make a good point, kids really don't play with toys much anymore.

I think you're both right. Kids in general don't play with action figures as much as we did mostly because we're now in a high era for digital content but with that said, kids still do absolutely play with toys. Companies make collector focused figures but still make toys geared mostly for kids as well. For example, Neca makes collector focused TMNT figs but Playmates has ALOT of different TMNT figures based on the cartoon series, movies, etc I don't think companies would make kid focused figures still if there wasn't a demographic for it. Just makes sense. Personally, my son is back and forth. He hasn't played with action figures in a while, but I think that's mostly because since his older sister has a Switch, he had to have one as well and puts all his focus into that. He's also very artsy, so he rather draw than anything.

We only think in terms of how we behave … Maybe kids aren’t collecting the figures adults are collecting . That doesn’t mean they don’t enjoy or collect toys there are many brands designed specifically for kids that parents know and will purchase for their children (imaginext, lego, FNAF, Thomas the train, fidget spinners, poppers,) Just because a kid doesn’t have many action figures doesn’t say he doesn’t enjoy or buy toys. I always see kids in the toy isles at Target and Walmart when I'm toy hunting. Their excitement when they see a cool toy is the same I had as a kid in the 80s. The only difference is today's cool toys aren't as cheap as they were back then. And even then parents were still not quick to pluck down $10 bucks for a couple action figures. That being said I "aged out" of toys once the home video game console boom hit. By the time the 80s were closing out and I was entering my teens and I had all but stopped playing with my toys. Kids born in the 2Ks have grown up in the era of PlayStartion, X-B0x, Switch, etc. My oldest nephew loved playing with his WWE action figures in the late 2Ks-early 2010s, but once he understood how to play video games it was over.

I wonder how kids get into things when they have choice whereas when we were kids we had no choice meaning we watched whatever popped up on tv.

You don’t have to like him but he’s not wrong in what he says to say that children are still buying toys it’s not the case like it used to be Action figures are like $30 now at Walmart and Target there are more for adults heck even the KZitem channels that’s Centers around Action figure collecting have to now put a disclaimer that the channel is not for children that should give you a heads up that the action figure collecting is for the adults and not for children

Yea no i believe you on your kid still loves toys but times are different now. The majority of kids are definitely more into technology now. Kids definitely still love toys but not as many do. They give up on them much earlier than a lot of us did. And well clearly some of us havent given up on them lol

It's hard to get kids into action figures in my experience. It's rare that boys actually want to collect them over video games. He's talking in extremes, but mostly that's what I see with boys in my family and extended.

It is true that today many kids are more interested in electronics over toys. It depends on the age. Kids under 10 aren’t really going hard in video games theyre playing with toys … kids over 10 are maturing and are conscious of what’s for babies and what’s for big kids. if it’s acceptable for them to play with toys without peer scrutiny then they will enjoy them, but as soon as it’s not cool amongst a social group they will stop and follow the crowd of what socially acceptable

@@Poundz978 I still say you got a rare one for these days. My kids think figs are cool, but they want and love video games and both are under ten. Same thing with my nephew and his friends. I've bought them all figures on birthdays and they appreciate the looks, but don't touch them later.

All comes down to definition, there are kids toys.. but majority of action figures / collectibles are made for the 30 / 40 plus adults. Also the definition of kids has to be revisited nowadays.. there are many responsibilities and yes technology , internet and socially media has an impact on imagination. BTW i collect toys as female 😂😂😂 and no not barbies
@Poundz978

To generally say kids don’t buy toys is like saying women don’t buy toys. I’ve seen ig pages of girls/women who collect toys and not barbies…I only said that cause I have 4 sisters who only had barbies and dolls I would never say kids don’t buy toys .. without being specific on which toys But to say “kids don’t buy toys” is not a factual statement Kids even like figures,which say 4+ on the packaging - which is advertised for children.

@@Poundz978 generalization should be avoided I agree, thats why the definition is key here, my older brother was into TMNT, He-Man, Thundercats, DC and Marvel. We used to watch the shows together and when he got his figures out ,we both played with them. When i had my son in the early 2000's, Spiderman and X-men was a huge deal, so i bought him Marvel legends and he had a huge collection. My son is a adult today and moved out, now i collect figures because it reminds me of my childhood with my brother and the great times i had with my son.. company's knows that nostalgia plays a huge role in pricing toys.. now would i dish out 30 dollars for a 5 to 10 year old for a figure? Sure but would i dish out 150 for a mezco figure? I would but id get a detolf with that and teach my child how to collect and how to play 😅
